DOMINGO ICT-CSS TEACHER Learning Activity Sheet (LAS) Quarter 4 Name of Learner: _____________________________________________________ Grade and Section: ________________________ Date: ______________________ CSS 7 ACTIVITY SHEET I. Evaluation of Hazards and Risks II. Learning Competency with Code Evaluate the effects of hazards and risks in the workplace. (TLE_ICTCS7/8OS-0i-1) III. Background information for learners (Review on the previous lesson) What are the 5S System in Computer? Common hazards encountered by computer technicians and users A hazard is a situation in the workplace that has the potential to harm the health and safety of people or to damage plant and equipment. The situation could involve a task, chemical or equipment used. Hazard management is a continuous process that can be used to improve the health and safety of all workplaces. TYPES OF HAZARD (URL: https://youtu.be/vauNWk02ahc by Dr. Salah Rammal “Take care when using Computer”) Physical Hazards One of the most common physical hazards involving computer technicians is cables running across the floor. If someone trips, falls, and hurts himself because of a cable you ran across the floor, someone (you, your employer, or your customer) has a serious legal negligence problem. If you need to temporarily run a cable across the floor, place a Danger sign similar to those "wet floor" signs used by cleaning services. Mechanical Hazards When working on electronic equipment, ask yourself "Is there any way this equipment could hurt me?‖. You might stick your hand in a printer and suddenly the paper feed arm moves, feeding not only paper through the printer, but a piece of your finger too. You might move your hand past a computer chassis and lose a chunk of flesh because it is razor sharp. When working on electronic equipment always be alert to any possibility of being hurt by moving parts, hot components, or sharp edges. Chemical Hazards. There is a wide array of chemicals used with electronic equipment. There are display cleaning chemicals, keyboard cleaning chemicals, compressed gas dirt and dust removers, and many cleaning solvents. Some of these chemicals can be harmful if accidentally swallowed, get on bare skin, or get in eyes. Before using any chemicals for electronic equipment always read the warnings and instructions on the label. Ergonomic Hazards are physical conditions that may pose risk of injury to the musculoskeletal system, such as the muscles or ligaments of the lower back, tendons or nerves of the hands/wrists, or bones surrounding the knees, resulting in musculoskeletal disorder (MSD). ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES ACTIVITY 1 Evaluate the effects of the following hazards. 1. Ergonomics (chair is not appropriate when sitting in front of a computer) 2. Physical (exposed electrical components) ACTIVITY 2 (PERFORMANCE TASK) MY TRIAL RUN FOR MY FUTURE: SEE IT! THINK IT! DO IT! Think about what your first job might be in the future. In your mind, make a picture of how your workplace looks like. Think about how you can answer the following question. Describe one unsafe situation you might find at work. Why is this a hazardous situation? What injury or health problem could it result? How can you prevent an accident from happening? IV. Assessment Study the following hazards found in workplace. Evaluate the risks by describing how it will affect the concerned person. Choose your answer from the word pool. Use the Table below. Spot the Hazard A Hazard is anything that could hurt you or someone else Assess the Risk Work out how likely it is that the hazard will hurt someone and how badly he/she could be hurt 1. exposed hot components or sharp edges of computers 2. unattended hand tools (pliers) at the top of the ladder 3. Slippery computer laboratory floor with no danger sign 4. Overloaded Electrical sockets 5. Elbows level with the monitor when using a computer A. It might burn or cut someone B. It might cause to muscle strain, muscle imbalances, and fatigue C. It might fall to someone’s head D. It can cause someone to slip and fall E. It can cause the circuit wiring to overheat and lead to a fire V. Additional Activity Answer the following: A. Supposing you have a classmate who works part-time as a helper in a computer / PisoNet shop, how would you warn him about the hazards in his workplace? What may be the hazards that can be found in his work? B. During this pandemic when health protocols should be strictly observed, what common practices of Filipinos that are mostly traditional do you think are hazardous? Ex: Beso-beso Handshaking VI. Answer Key Activity 1 1. Sitting in a low chair is too uncomfortable that may cause strain on the leg muscles. 2. It may cause electric shock to the user.
