ESSAY “Nobody Won in War” A Position Paper on the Video Entitled ‘On Assignment with Richard Engel : The Rise and Fall of ISIS’ Islamic State of Iraq and Syria also known as ISIS is a Jihadist group full of violent people and ideology and call themselves a caliphate. The video is all about the most brutal terrorist group in modern history—the ISIS. Richard Engel definitely lived and experienced the war more than what happened there in Syria. He saw how lives of people were ended by the war in just a snap of a bullet, he saw dramatic cries of people calling and praying for their lives. He talked with some member of ISIS that was caught by the soldiers and interviewed them. In that way, he showcases how people get lured. He opened our eyes with the killings and rampant execution to people without mercy. In this paper, we will examine if victory can be obtained in a war. Ideology is the thing why ISIS are brave enough to create war, spread fear, and kill people. The battle of ideology is a hard fight. There are a lot of reasons to leave but we ended someone's life. However, why do people join? The man that was interviewed with an unknown name says that he has a normal life until when he gets older and feels alienated and being pushed towards being identified as another which makes him feel not normal. Another person is Warren Christian Clark and he felt being persecuted in his own country. Another is Hoda Muthana was and was born in New Jersey and had a normal life but came to Syria and became a member of ISIS. These stories are just a few examples why someone turned back to the government and decided to join a terrorist group. I firmly believe that ideology can change the world but also has the can to destroy it. Micheal Shermer quotes, “I say you don’t need religion, or political ideology, to understand human nature. Science reveals that human nature is greedy and selfish, altruistic and helpful”. As he said, people can have an option to choose violence, and to provoke a war. ISIS people can not understand the value of human lives. What all they care about is how they can stand for their nonsense ideology that causes thousands of human lives to die. ISIS are targeting children. They lured them by giving them food and bicycles and then giving them a bomb. They kill innocent kids to fulfill their plans. Hoda Muthana claims that women don't have a role other than being a housewife but this is not true. In fact, ISIS had a women-only brigade known as Al-Khansaa Brigade. They are also responsible for executions of people in which they leave the corpse in a week so people may see it and smell it. They want to show threat, and make them feel fear. They also manage the most disturbing practices — sex slavery. Women should be the first one who’ll protect another woman but ended up like this. These are not justifiable, completely abominable in the law. ISIS women also allow them to turn into murderers. They are so called ISIS-Cubs and were given military training. Children should have a brighter future ahead of them but being put to waste because of their own parents. By creating a Caliphate, a pure Muslim State, they are creating war. I can understand that they want to bring back Islam to its glorious past, and restore Muslim pride but not in the way where you are ruining the lives of every person accomplice or not. Muthana thinks people are brainwashed by those ignorant ideologies and they were blinded by uncertain promises of ISIS leaders. Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, the man who started ISIS has sworn to take the fight. Many cities like Paris, London, Berlin, Orlando, have been targeted and many people have been killed. The United Nation believed that the only way to defeat the ISIS ideology is to have the Nuremberg Style Trial since many detainees still believed they had done nothing wrong. Indeed, people deserve a chance but only for those people who deserve it. Even if you kill a thousand lives and still not be guilty for what you did, you deserve hell. There are no winners in war; regardless of whether the side claims to be the victor, everyone loses. (Kettering,1938). Nobody wins in war. Either you stop the war by defeating the other party, it does not mean a nation won. What makes them all defeated is the damage properties, economic opportunities, resources, and lives of people. ISIS causes a great problem in our world. The refugees in Al-Hol Camp located in Syria do not know what is ahead of them. Their native country does not want to accept them. The future of the children is unclear. Numerous deaths were brought on only by the ideology of one person's influence on another. It is essential that your influence is constructive and not destructive if you want to have an impact on others.
