FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – THURSDAY 24TH AUGUST 2023
Captivating Theatrical Production of Justin Butcher's "Scaramouche Jones" Takes the Stage,
Promising a Journey of Laughter, Tragedy, and Redemption
Prepare to be transported into a world of mystery, laughter, and profound reflection as Food For Thought
proudly presents Justin Butcher's acclaimed play Scaramouche Jones. This mesmerising theatrical production is
set to captivate audiences with its rich storytelling, intricate character portrayal, and emotional depth.
Scaramouche Jones follows the remarkable journey of its eponymous character, Scaramouche, a 99-year-old
clown, as he reminisces about his tumultuous life on the night of his final performance. As he peels back the
layers of his own history, the audience is taken on a whirlwind tour across continents and decades, witnessing
both the comic and tragic events that have shaped Scaramouche's existence. From the bustling markets of
Trinidad to the harrowing horrors of the Nazi concentration camps, his story is a mosaic of human experiences
that confronts the audience with laughter, tears, and the complexities of the human spirit.
The play, written by Justin Butcher, has earned widespread acclaim for its poetic language, intricate character
development, and thought-provoking themes. Butcher's words bring Scaramouche to life in a way that invites
audiences to reflect on their own lives, choices, and the meaning of existence. The production is directed by
Michael Speight, known for his masterful touch in bringing powerful narratives to life on the stage.
"This production of Scaramouche Jones is a celebration of the theatrical arts and the power of storytelling,"
says Josh Mullett-Sadones, Producer of Food For Thought. "The play's exploration of identity, resilience, and
the human capacity for both darkness and redemption resonates deeply, making it a perfect fit for our mission
to engage, inspire, and challenge our audiences."
The titular role of Scaramouche Jones will be played by Simon Billington, whose performance promises to
evoke a spectrum of emotions, drawing the audience into the heart of Scaramouche's journey with
authenticity and depth.
Scaramouche Jones will be staged 17th – 21st October in the stunning St Barnabas Church, in amongst its large
arches and its majestic sanctuary with tickets available for purchase at buytickets.at/foodforthought. Don't
miss this extraordinary opportunity to witness a theatrical masterpiece that spans continents, generations, and
