Students are required to take a minimum of 4 UIC Seminars, but a student is allowed to substitute UIC Seminars with electives at their exchange program while studying abroad.
If a student is away for one semester on exchange (including Exchange Program, Visiting Program, and Study Abroad Program), the number of UIC Seminars to be taken is reduced to 3. If a student takes two semesters of exchange, then the number goes down to a minimum of 2.
Transfer students may take 2 UIC Seminars only.
2. Students admitted before 2019 who have taken both a Science Literacy course and “Research Design and Quantitative Methods” by the end of 2018 academic year can have one of them counted as a UIC Seminar for the purpose of calculating graduation requirements.
3. All courses offered in English by the College of Commerce and Economics can be counted towards Economics major credits.
4. Courses offered in Korean by the College of Commerce and Economics can be counted towards Economics major credits up to 4 courses or 12 credits.
5. Out of the following International Studies major courses, up to 2 courses (6 credits) can be counted towards Economics major credits.
1) ISM2002 Fundamentals of Economic Decision Making (This is not applicable to students admitted in 2009 and thereafter.)
2) ISM2104 Financial Markets and Global Financial Institution (This is not applicable to those students admitted in 2010 and thereafter.)
3) ISM2105 International Economics (International Trade and Economic Integration) (This is not applicable to those students admitted in 2010 and thereafter.)
6. Major credits will be reduced to 36 if a student completes a double major.
7. For students admitted in 2009-2015, 3 of 6 credits for Language can be substituted with 3 credits of Language and Arts course of UIC.
Students admitted in 2016-2018 should take 1 course from Language & Arts courses in UIC or 1 Course from Non-UIC Language Courses.
Students admitted in 2012-2015, and 2019-2022 may get an exemption for language course(s) according to UIC language requirement exemption regulations. Those students who get exempted, or only have to fulfill partial requirements do not earn extra credits, should take other courses in place of language courses.
8. CC L-H-P Series: Students should take two courses from two of the following categories: World History, World Literature or World Philosophy.
9. Notice for transfer students
1) Transfer students entered as juniors are required to take 2 semesters of Chapel, whereas transfer students entered as sophomores are required to take 3 semesters of Chapel.
2) Transfer students class of 2010 (2010학번) and thereafter are waived from language requirements.
3) Transfer students may take additional 3 credits of World History and additional 3 credits of World Literature instead of Western Civilization and Eastern Civilization.
4) Transfer students class of 2011 (2011학번) and thereafter are waived from Humanities Reading Seminar I,II, Global Leadership Forum, Holistic Education (or Social Engagement) and RC101.
