TN modem
MMU4 A
MMU4 A ( MINI-LINK TN modem)
• MMU4 A is a dual carrier modem supporting Single WAN 1+0/2+0 and Dual WAN
2×(1+0) (single modem), including support for XPIC, Hitless Adaptive Modulation, and
Native Ethernet.
• MMU4 A is applicable for MINI-LINK TN Platform nodes/chassis.
• MMU4 A is a high-capacity PDH/Ethernet plug-in unit with support for XPIC, Adaptive
Coding and Modulation (ACM) and modulation schemes up to 4096 QAM.
• MMU4 A enables Native Ethernet transport over a radio hop, that is, a Packet Link.
• MMU4 A use the high-speed connections to communicate with the Ethernet switch
on the NPU boards.
• MMU4 A has a backplane capacity of up to 2 Gbps and supports Enhanced Radio Link
Bonding (EnRLB).
MINI-LINK 6600
INDOOR UNITS
MINI-LINK 6600 is a split-mount microwave transmission system. The MINI-LINK 6600 enclosure
is mounted indoors or in a climate-controlled outdoor cabinet. It is either a compact one-box
solution or it can be equipped with plug-in units according to what is needed on the site.
The connected microwave radio or radios are mounted outdoors. Up to 15 microwave hop
directions can be connected to one MINI-LINK 6600 indoor enclosure.
Coaxial cables connect the indoor installation to each of the outdoor radio units.
MINI-LINK 6600
HOP COMPATIBILITY
MINI-LINK 6600 is hop compatible with MINI-LINK TN nodes equipped with an MMU4 A modem
unit. This means it is possible to run a hop with a MINI-LINK 6600 at one end and a MINI-LINK
TN MMU4 A at the other.
MINI-LINK 6600
APPLICATIONS
MINI-LINK 6600 can be used for packet and or PDH transport in any application. The most
common application is back hauling in cellular networks.
MINI-LINK 6600 fits both at end sites and at small to large aggregation sites. It can transport
traffic for all kinds of mobile networks.
Other applications are fixed operator networks, enterprise networks and government networks.
MINI-LINK 6600
Backplane buses
Backplane buses
A DC power bus supplies the plug-in units with filtered DC from the power filter unit.
The node processor unit is in contact with the other plug-in units for control and supervision via a
management bus.
Ethernet traffic to and from the two modem units is connected to the node processor unit by two high speed
point to point buses.
For E1 or DS1 cross connect, the modem units and the node processor unit are connected by the TDM bus.
MINI-LINK 6600
ENCLOSURE CONTROL
When a MINI-LINK 6600 is installed in an Ericsson Radio Base Station, RBS, cabinet. The Enclosure
Control (EC) makes it possible to connect the MINI-LINK 6600 to the EC bus, a communication bus
connecting Ericsson equipment on site.
EC enables the RBS to monitor the MINI-LINK 6600 temperature and adjust the RBS cabinet fans
accordingly. This provides lower power consumption and reduces the total noise level for the site.
EC also enables node identification, which provides simplified operation and maintenance.
MINI-LINK 6600 does not require any configuration for the EC bus.
There are different enclosure sizes available for different applications. Let’s discuss them one-by-one.
Plug-in Units
Power filter unit
pfu
The PFUs operate at -48V DC and provide DC filtering.
The PFUs have under voltage and over voltage protection and polarity protection.
In MINI-LINK 6691 and 6693 it is possible to configure redundant power. This is achieved by
connecting two different power sources to the two power inputs on the PFU.
Plug-in Units
node processor unit
NPU
The Node Processor Unit, NPU, is the central processor of the node. It also stores the
software, configuration, and licenses for the node.
It has an IP router for the management network, and a switch for the Ethernet traffic.
The NPU holds the synchronization reference clocks.
The NPU is a mandatory unit and holds termination for Ethernet and management traffic.
The NPU also has user input and output interfaces on the front.
Plug-in Units
modem unit
MMU
The modem unit MMU is the interface to the radio unit and sets the radio carrier’s traffic type,
bandwidth, and modulation. By this it sets the carrier’s capacity.
Each modem unit handles two radio units. There are two coaxial connectors at the front of the
MMU for connecting the radio units and provide the radios with power and management.
MMU 1002 supports hybrid traffic. This means a user-configured combination of native Ethernet
and native E1 or DS1 traffic over the same carrier.
Plug-in Units
Fan Unit
FAU
The fan unit provides the enclosure with side to side cooling.
It automatically controls the fan speed.
And it has integrated control together with an Ericsson RBS if connected to the Enclosure Control bus.

Plug-in Units
modem unit
MMU 1002
MMU 1002 fits all enclosures.
• It is a dual carrier modem where both carriers support simultaneous packet and TDM
traffic.
• It has support for up to 4096 QAM with adaptive coding and modulation and has ETSI
and ANSI channel spacing from 7 to 112 MHz.
• MMU 1002 works with both MINI-LINK 6363 and RAU2 X.
• It supports header compression and XPIC.
• With two modems, 1+1 RLP, 2+1 RLB, 4+0 RLB, 2+2 RLP is supported. It also supports
XPIC, ACM, 4096 QAM, physical layer sync etc.
Plug-in Units
ETU 1001
ETU 1001 is an Ethernet Termination Unit (ETU) that supports up to four Ethernet ports. The
actual number of ports depends upon the NPU type and which APU slot that is used.
ETU 1001 can be seen as a port extension to the NPU, where basically the same
Ethernet L2 and L3 functionality as on the NPU is supported on the ETU.
ETU 1001 supports SyncE and 1588 Timestamping.
Hybrid traffic
MMU 1002
The MMU 1002 hybrid modem unit can transport native Ethernet and native E1 or DS1 in parallel.
The traffic mix is configurable in steps of one E1 or DS1 from only packet traffic up to a maximum
of 80 E1s or DS1s.
At commissioning, the modem unit must be configured with channel spacing and modulation.
This gives the total carrier capacity. If no PDH traffic is transported, all of this capacity is available
for packet traffic, called packet link capacity.
If PDH traffic is to be transported, the number of E1s or DS1s must be configured. The remaining
carrier capacity is the packet link capacity.

XPIC cable
XPIC cable is required for XPIC configurations when MINI-LINK 6365 is installed with activating
carrier aggregation mode because one port on MMU1002 is used for interfacing radio
however second port free and not be connected to other radio
In this case XPIC cable is mandatory to make sure that XPIC function is working properly
