This permit is to be issued to cover all work involving flame cutting apparatus, oxyacetylene welding apparatus, electric welding apparatus, blow torches, grinding
equipment, bitumen boilers or any other equipment producing flame, intense heat or sparks.

[B] The permit holder is responsible for implementing the following fire prevention measures:
1. Ensuring proper ventilation in the hot work area.
2. Removing combustible materials from the vicinity.
3. Properly positioning fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and other fire-fighting equipment.
4. Assigning a qualified fire watch personnel during and after the hot work.
5. The permit holder has verified that all fire safety equipment within the hot work area, such as fire alarms, smoke detectors, and fire suppression systems, are tested
and in proper working order.
6. The permit holder shall notify the Facilities Manager and Security Team of the start and completion of hot work activities.
7. All personnel involved in the hot work activities have received proper training in fire safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and the use of personal
protective equipment.
8. The work will be supervised by a competent individual who can address safety concerns promptly.
9. After completing the hot work, a post-work inspection must be conducted to ensure no smoldering materials or potential fire hazards remain in the hot work area. Any
abnormalities or concerns should be reported immediately.
10. The permit holder agrees to comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines regarding hot work activities and fire safety.
11. The school administration reserves the right to terminate the hot work activities if safety protocols are breached or if any unsafe conditions arise during the work.
[C] The following precautions are required and are a condition to the permit being issued. Tick where appropriate.
Area cleared of all loose combustible material
Tar boilers to be supervised by experiences persons and never left
unattended unless switched off
Flammable liquids/gases removed or protected
Tar boilers, or similar equipment, only to be used on roofs if a noncombustible heat insulating base is used to prevent the heat igniting
the roof
Other sides of walls or partitions checked to ensure combustible materials
will not be ignited by conducted heat
Gas cylinders to be stored a minimum of three metres from the burners
Exposed wooden floors or other immovable combustible materials covered
with non-combustible materials
Appropriate extinguishers to be located in the working area
Welding, cutting or grinding work screened using non- combustible material
Competent person to be standing by with fire extinguisher while work is
in progress
Smoke/heat detectors rendered inoperable by disconnection or enclosing
with plastic bag and to be made operable immediately after work
completed
If working close to a gas supply, gas to be turned off and piping protected
When hot working on a roof, provision must be made for an alternative
way off, in case of fire
Gas cylinders to be stored in vertical position
