In case of PITB, its more critical due to a large number of governmen t sector critical applications deployed in its Data centres. To protect against any kind of known and unknown threats, TMC (PITB) data centre team follows defence in depth / layered secu rity model. We have categorized these defence in depth security into 4 main categories. 1. 2. 3. System Security 1. Data / information security and protection 2. Application Security 3. Host/Operating System Security Network Security 1. Internal Network Security 2. Perimeter Security Application System Security Host Internal Network Physical Security 1. 4. Data Hardware security Perimeter Policies, Procedures and Awareness Network Security Physical Security Hardware Policies, Procedures & Awarness 18 ABOUT TMC SOLUTION DETAILS SCOPE OF WORK PROJECT APPROACH INVESTMENT SUMMARY SYSTEM SECURITY System level security covers data protection, application and host level security. PITB data centres provide rack space for clients who want to host their equipment or servers. Infra structure as a service (IaaS) is its major and most popular service in cloud due to its cost effectiveness, redundancy and scalability benefits. Data Security In our cloud network, data is being saved on sophisticated Storage Area Networks (SANs). Which provide much more reliability than normal drives on servers. On top of that, all data is being backup for 7 days on DR site. In contrast to normal servers, where theft of drive may case data loss or theft of important data, in our network data is being saved in segments on multiple drive, which provides reliability and protection without any special configures required by client in software or application. Clients may also take snapshots of servers/data at any point of time and may revert back to that snapshots if something goes wrong. Clients have also ability to clone servers, to test some upgrades or features in sandbox. Host Security Like Application, newly installed hosts are placed in sandbox, performed penetration testing to scan and fix host/Operating system vulnerabilities before putting in production. System which are in cloud, those are based on templates properly hardened and patched based on the best industry practices, to provide security and performance. In case of some problem, servers in cloud migrate from problematic hardware to healthy hardware without any service degradation or reboot. On demand increase or decrease of resources is also possible. Application Security Application become more complex, there are more chances for inconsistent installations. Hackers use the openness of the internet to communicate and develop automated tools to facilitate the identification and exploitation of those vulnerabilities. Many attacks tools are widely available on the internet and are designed to execute highly sophisticated attacks using simple user interfaces. Most of the vulnerabilities found today originated in at least one of the following areas: Implementation: Software and protocols flaws, incorrect or faulty software architecture, incomplete testing etc. Configuration: Elements not properly configured, use of default configurations and so on. Design: Ineffective or inadequate security design, lack of or inappropriate implementation of redundancy mechanisms etc. PITB technical and security team understand these problems and defined a mechanism to overcome. For development, resources are provided in sandbox, so that there are no threats from outside. When application is ready, penetration testing is performed before moving application to production. These process scan vulnerabilities in application, inform development team to secure for those. 19 ABOUT TMC SOLUTION DETAILS SCOPE OF WORK PROJECT APPROACH INVESTMENT SUMMARY NETWORK SECURITY Data centre Network security is critical to the success of a business.
