Automated Design
Automated design (computational, parametric or generative design) provides our teams with a
smart way to generate and analyse multiple design options in a fast, effective and iterative way.
Melbourne Park

Client:
Projects Victoria
Melbourne Park is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment precinct,
hosting globally significant events such as the Australian Open.

Perth Children’s Hospital
Footbridge
Perth, Western Australia
Client:
Perth Children’s Hospital
Funded by the hospital foundation, the Perth Children’s Hospital
commissioned the construction of the “Kids Bridge”, to provide safe
access from the hospital to Kings Park. At a cost of $6.3M, the
pedestrian bridge provides patients and their families an opportunity
to escape the rigours of the hospital environment through the
colourful and fantastical passageway all while avoiding the busy
street crossing below.
Solution:
With only 60 hours to deliver the first model to the client, the team
created the initial ‘3d mesh’ for the bridge which included almost
2,000 vertical slats in several digital design tools. The final project
model was then fed through a visualisation software to enable quick
renderings to be produced.
Sustainable
Legacies
Infrastructure is a major source of
carbon emissions, both embodied
and operational. For the lower
emissions future we need, our
industry needs to radically rethink
how infrastructure is planned,
delivered and managed.
