LESSON 5:
THE END OF THE
WORLD
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
 Understand that the world will certainly come to its
end;
 Bear witness to Christ as “Alpha and the Omega” of
time by enriching their present life with good works;
and
 Pray that they value time as God’s precious gift to them.
INTRODUCTION
Most people begin to lose the sense of
time and the value of time. It seems that
the here and now dimension of life is that
which only matters.
SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING
The Church has placed the Solemnity
of Christ the King at the end of her
liturgical calendar, that is, on the last
Sunday of Ordinary time.
CHURCH TEACHING
 With
regards to the end of time is very
palpable particularly in her liturgy and
sacraments. Both the truths and celebrations
of our faith draw us to Christ who is ‘the
Alpha and Omega”
PERFECT TIMING
There is appointed time for everything,
and a time for every affair under the heavens.
A time to give birth, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant.
A time to kills, and a time to heal;
a time to tear down, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather them.
PERFECT TIMING
A time to embrace, and a time to be far embraces.
A time to seek, a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away.
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to be silent, and a time to speak.
A time to love, and a time to hate;
a time of war and a time of peace.
ECCLESIASTES 3 :1-8
The author of the book of Ecclesiastes
reminds us that while there is a divine
plan, such plan, however, is hidden from
those who seek happiness only in this
world.
HOW WILL THE WORLD COME TO AN END?
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be
darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will
fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and
all the tribes of the earth will mourn.”
(Mt. 24:29-30)
WHEN WILL THE WORLD END?
“ There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on
earth nations will be in dismay perplexed by the roaring of the
sea and the waves. People will die or fright in anticipation of what
is coming upon the world , for the powers of the heavens will be
shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a Cloud
with power and glory.”
(Luke 21:25-27)
WHAT SHALL WE DO?
This belief calls us to vigilance. The fact that neither
the angels of heaven, not the Son, but the Father
alone knows the day and the hour means that at any
moment it can occur, so we must prepared at all
times.
THREE IMMINENT OCCURENCES
1.RESURRECTION OF THE BODY
2.SECOND COMING OF CHRIST
3.LAST JUDGMENT
THREE IMMINENT OCCURENCES
1.Resurrection of the Body
2.Second coming of Christ or
Parousia
3.Last Judgment
RESURRECTION
OF THE BODY
RESURRECTION OF THE BODY
 The doctrine in the resurrection of the body
tells us that the dead will rise again with the
same bodies as they had on earth on the Last
day. The bodies of the souls in heaven and of
damned souls in hell will be both resurrected.
THE GLORIFIED BODY OF JESUS
 Jesus stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” But
they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a
ghost. Then He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do
questions arise in your hearts? Look at My hands and My feet, that it
is myself. Touch me and see, because ghost does not have flesh and
bones as you can see I have.”
 Luke 24:36-40
CHURCH TEACHING
 To rise with Christ, we must die with Christ; we must be
away from the body and at home with the Lord. In that
departure which is death the soul is separated from the
body. It will be reunited with the body on the day of the
resurrection of the dead.

(CCC 1005)
SECOND COMING
OF CHRIST
SECOND COMING OF CHRIST
Christ’s Second Coming is called Parousia
in Greek language. It is a dogma of faith
that Jesus Christ with glory and majesty
on the last day, that is, at the end of the
time to judge the living and the dead.
PARABLE OF TEN VIRGINS
 Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took
their lambs and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them
were foolish and five are wise. The foolish ones, when taking their
lambs. Since the bridegroom was long delayed , they all become
drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight, there was a cry. “Behold the
Bridegroom! Come out to meet him!” Then all those virgins got
up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, “
Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.”
CONTINUATION…
 But the wise ones replied, No, for there may not be enough for
us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some for
yourselves.” While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom came
and those who were ready went into weeding feast with him.
Then the door was locked. Afterwards the other virgins came
and said, “Lord, Lord, open the door for us!” But he said in reply,
“Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.” Therefore, stay awake,
for you know neither the day nor the hour.

 On judgment Day at the end of the World,
Christ will come in glory to achieve the
definitive triumph of good over evil which,
like the wheat and the tares, have grown up
together in the course of history.
 CCC 681
THE LAST
JUDGMENT
THE LAST JUDGMENT
The last judgment is also called general judgement, final
judgment or doomsday. It is the final and eternal judgment
by Christ on the Last Day of the people in every nation
which will result in the divine court to decide whether we
will rise to eternal life or eternal damnation.
NARROW DOOR
 Jesus passed through towns and villages, teaching as He went
and making His ways to Jerusalem. Someone asked Him, ‘Lord,
will only a few people be saved? He answered them, ‘Strive to
enter through the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will
attempt to enter but will not be strong enough”
 Lk 13: 22-24
CHURCH TEACHING
 The Last Judgment will reveal that God’s
justice triumphs over all injustices committed
by His creatures and that God’s love is
stronger than death.
