Catching living organisms xx/xx/xx A pooter is used to collect small animals from bushes and plants. A pitfall trap is used to collect insects and small mammals that fall in and are trapped. A Tullgren funnel collects small organisms that live in soil or leaf litter. A net is used to collect small organisms that live in a pond or stream. Using a key to identify organisms What are these creatures? Food chains and webs x/xx/xx All of the energy in the world comes from the sun. Green plants are known as producers because they produce their own food by photosynthesis. Organisms that can not make their own food are called consumers. When one organism feeds on the next It is called a food chain. Note!! The arrows in a food chain show the direction of the energy flow!!! Food webs are more common than food chains. They are made up from several interconnected food chains. Teacher note! Give out short exercise (completed version on next page).
