COURSE EXPECTATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Grades:
A minimum grade of C (73) is required for a student to progress from one nursing course
to the next. A student who does not achieve a grade of at least C in a NUR or HIN course
may repeat the course only once. Students repeating NUR 405 must earn a grade of
B. Assignments graded P/F must meet the standard for a C grade in order to earn a Pass.
The student must achieve an average grade of C (73) in the above course
requirements to success-fully complete and pass the course. If a student achieves a
grade below 73, the grade recorded will be an F.
Nursing majors who fail to achieve a grade of C or better in an undergraduate nursing or
HIN course must meet with the director of the undergraduate nursing program to develop
a contractual plan of study prior to registration for the following semester. A student may
not register for a nursing course if the prerequisite course has been failed or is
incomplete. A grade of B is required when an HIN or NUR course is repeated (see
Department Grading Policy p. 30). A withdrawal from a course is considered an attempt,
therefore, any student that withdraws from a course must achieve a grade of B or better
on the second attempt. If a student does not attain a B or above when the course is
repeated, the grade earned will be submitted as the final grade. Failing or withdrawing
from 2 or more courses makes the student ineligible to remain in the program.
A nursing student may only attempt a given NUR or HIN course twice, regardless of the
reason for noncompletion. No further attempt will be permitted. A withdrawal from a
course is considered an attempt. Failing or withdrawing from 2 or more courses makes
the student ineligible to remain in the program. Students who wish to withdraw from a
NUR or HIN course for personal or health reasons should first discuss the decision with
the course instructor to determine possible alternatives. Once the decision to withdraw is
made, the student should inform the course instructor and director of the undergraduate
program in writing.
A minimum grade of C (73) or better is required in each HIN and NUR course to
progress to the next nursing course. Nursing students may repeat only one HIN or NUR
course. If a student earns a grade below a C grade, the course must be repeated. Nursing
students may repeat only one HIN or NUR course. No grade of C- will be given in any
HIN or NUR course regardless of the student’s major. A student who does not achieve a
grade of C or better in an NUR or HIN course may repeat the course only once. If a
student repeats an HIN or NUR course, a grade of B must be earned when the course is
repeated to progress to the next nursing course. Any student that withdraws from a course
must achieve a grade of B or better on the second attempt. If a B or above is not earned
when a course is repeated, the grade earned will be posted as the final grade. Failing or
withdrawing from 2 or more courses makes the student ineligible to remain in the
program.

clinical rotations in order to pass the course. See clinical evaluation form for specific
evaluation criteria.
Pre-requisite health clearance, malpractice/liability insurance, and BCLS must be
current and on file in the Nursing Department. Students who do not have current
documents on file will not be allowed in the clinical area and will be dropped from
the clinical group.

All students in NUR 405 must complete the Standardized (HESI) Test as scheduled. The
test score is 10% of the course grade. Students who fail to achieve an acceptable score
850 must complete prescribed remediation prior to repeating or taking any further
standardized tests.

Cellular phones are not allowed to be turned on or used in the classroom or in-patient
clinical areas. Students found using cell phones will be asked to leave class/clinical. See

be subject to a lower grade.
6 Pre-requisite Courses

information will be included in course tests.
