Facts about History of Tourism
Before the 1950s in Europe, tourism was only a domestic activity with some international travel
between countries.
After WWII, a combination of circumstances gave way to international travel.
Thomas took founded of the first inclusive tours with his use of a chartered train in 1841.

They take tourists around the places of interest, on foot or on the bus.
They are expected to impart information to the guests during the tour.
They manage and constantly accompanies local or foreign tourists and other visitors within the
country.

Domestic visitor - is a Filipino, who lives in the Philippines and takes a business trip to Cebu City.
Amenities are structures that need to be built to cater for tourists. It is a special “little extra” a business does to attract and
keep customers. Example: banks, post offices, shops, care hire
Negative Attraction - It is a classification of Attraction wherein an attribute of an area that tends to make some tourists not
consider visiting the destination because of issues like pollution, crime, prostitution and other environmental
problem in the area.
The difference between Primary and Secondary Attraction is that Primary Attraction is the main reason for the visiting
tourists to a destination while Secondary Attraction has tourist appeal but are not the primary reason for visiting a location
or destination.

The following are tips for an effective tour commentary:
Listen carefully to questions and other concerns.
Voice should be audible.
Prepare yourself for questions to be asked.
Itinerary - It is a planned route or journey that includes the program or movements of the guests as they embark on a
tour.
Tour Package - It comprises transport and accommodation that advertised and sold together by a vendor known as a tour
operator.
Moment of Truth - This is where the first impression is developed by guests towards the suppliers of services.
Visa - No individual can enter another country without this important stamped Document shown in their passport.
Air Ticket - A very important travel document stating what flight schedule, date of flight, where is the destination, name
of passenger and baggage allowance.
Proper decorum - A tour guide must not take sides to any of the guest, suppliers of services and other concerns that needs
to be solved should act as a peace keeper.
Stages of Tour Guiding Technique
Pre Tour - reviews the rooming list and tour itinerary of the guests
Tour Proper - gives reminders on the next activity/movement for the tourists
Tour Proper - checks seats for items left behind
Post Tour - prepared the tour files for over all Evaluation
Complaints Management - investigate because of the complain of the guest.
Tour Proper - checks the type, size and condition of motor vehicle, route and traffic conditions when sending off the
guests.
Tour Proper - alerts the guests for an approaching sight of interest and give appropriate commentary only when sight is
visible.
