Karen Solano-Gomez Ms. Giron Counseling 10 4 November 2022 UC Berkeley Field Trip This field trip to UC Berkeley was hosted by the SRJC Transfer Center. It was held on Friday, November 4th from 8 am to 5 pm. When we arrived in Berkeley, we met up with a panel of Latinx Transfer students that were attending Berkeley. They shared a bit about their experiences transferring as well as being a student in Berkeley in general. I got to ask them a few questions regarding their housing experiences and day-to-day life as a Berkeley student. Afterwards we toured the school and concluded with lunch at the dining hall. During lunch we met with an SRJC alumni who had transferred to UC Berkeley a few years back. She offered to show us her dorm to get an idea of what the housing situation is like and spoke to us more casually about her experience as a student there. We were given about an hour of freetime to wander around the surrounding campus so we took the time to see what shops were around campus and just in general to see what students do for entertainment. After the hour was up we all got on the bus and discussed a bit about what we saw and learned at Berkeley and concluded the field trip. UC Berkeley was one of my dream schools when I was applying for colleges in high school, but after the field trip I decided that maybe Berkeley wasn't fit for me. I thought the campus was beautiful and all, but after weighing out all the factors, I had more cons than pros. I'm glad I was able to go on this field trip so that I could be certain whether I wanted to apply to Berkeley or not. I would recommend that students take advantage of field trips such as these because not only do you get to know the campus but also the typical life of a student at the college campus. This trip helped me as a college student because I want to make sure that I apply to schools that I will actually enjoy being in when it is time to transfer.
