Gayatri Tiffin In this food walk we tried to interview respective owners and came to know about the origin,history and ingredients used to make the delicacies 1 BRAHMIN’S SODA FACTORY • • • It is the Most Popular Juice And Ice Cream parlour in Mysuru Located in the heart of the bustling Mysuru market, and It is nearly three generations old, this shop was setup in the early 1930s made soda, using a machine that was specially sourced from England It is hugely popular during summer for its sodas of course, juices, homemade ice creams and fruit salads. “ Some Popular items 1.GINGER MILK:The refreshing cold milk has a touch of sweetness while the spicy warmth of the ginger envelopes your throat. 2. LIME MASALA SODA :Very refreshing combination of lime and the masala. Definitely wakes you up! 3. Chokelalji Govil. He hailed basically from North India. Came down to south to earn living by selling Jilebis in front of the Mysore Palace. Sitting under the scorching sun on the footpaths of the palace, he made his living. His son sri. C. Gopal Kumar followed his steps and started the so called business Bombay Tiffany's and got it registered in the year 1964. Today Bombay Tiffany's is the synonym for quality sweets since 1964 with a wide range of Indian sweets, Dry fruit sweets, snacks and sugar free sweets and chats. ▪ Indian sweets, Dry fruit sweets, snacks and sugar free sweets and chats. Bombay Tiffany's is located just beside bata n is a popular choice amongst ppl. In Mysore this establishment occupies a prominent location in sayyaji rao road.It is known to provide top services in the categories such as bakery, sweet shops, dry fruit wholesalers and snack retailers. ▪ You can Pay with the product or service with ease by using any of the available modes of payment, such as cash, master card, visa card, credit card, gpay, phone pay, NEFT, UPI, etc....... This establishment is functional from 8:00-22:00. 7 3) ▪ ▪ ▪ GURU SWEETS No visit to Mysore is complete without tasting the city’s most popular sweetmeat, the Mysore Pak! This concoction, born in the royal palaces of Mysore, takes only 4 ingredients to make, namely, gram flour, sugar, turmeric, and plenty of ghee! The first Mysore Pak was made by the great grandfather of Natarajan and Kumar who are the current owners of Guru Sweet Mart. This sweet shop is run by the fifth generation of the family descended from Kakkasura Madappa, the chef at the royal palace, widely regarded as the inventor of the Mysore Pak. The sweet dish, which has become the city’s signature dish, not only relished by thespians like the late Dr Rajkumar, Rajnikanth, the late Shivaji Ganeshan and politicians like Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and scores of foreigners too. ▪ According to Kumar, one of the partners of Guru Sweets, the Mysore Pak was first prepared by his great grandfather Kakasura Madappa. According to him this sweet was prepared when Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV was the king of the erstwhile Mysore. Kakasura Madappa was the chief chef of the Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and was known for preparing the sweets. ▪ Once he prepared a special sweet by using the ghee, gram flour and sugar. Kakasura Madappa didn’t name the sweet he had prepared. It was Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV who named it as the Royal Sweet Mysore Pak. Like everything else, the history of Mysore Pak also involves an accidental discovery. 9 4) ▪ ▪ ▪ Mahesh Prasad Veg Restaurant Although only a couple of decades old, it seems like Mahesh Prasad has been a part of Mysore's culinary scene forever. Hugely popular with locals for its all day vegetarian offerings, and also for its cosy, homely setting that conveys to diners the comforting, gold ole vibes of yesteryear. Some of the popular dishes are wholesome vegetarian thali, that finds its culinary roots in South Canara albeit in a flavour tone that is suited to local preferences, a delicious bonda soup, a dish that doesn’t get nearly the recognition it deserves, and some more like Chandrahara Basundi The Bisi Bele Bath is one dish that deserves this spotlight, not just at the Conrad. 'Bele' refers to lentil and this flavourful dish combines rice, lentils and a medley of fragrant spices that is usually drenched in ghee. Many restaurants in Bengaluru and iconic establishments like Mahesh Prasad in Mysuru top the bisi bele bath with boondi ▪ ▪ ▪ 5) GAYATHRI TIFFINS Gayathri Tiffin Room, widely known as GTR in the city of Mysuru, is a destination loved for its tiffin items, especially a variety of dosas! This over half a century old establishment serves up tongue-tickling dosa, the favourite being the Gayatri Masala Dosa here, not the typical Mysore Masala with red chutney, but a thick roast with a soft underbelly. GTR masala dosa :- a delightful crunchy dosa with a soft interior. has a nice buttery flavour. the potatoes are soft, creamy and have a generous amount of onion and fresh coriander for that sprightly freshness. the dosa itself is quite thick. served with a fresh spicy chutney. ▪ idli :- the idli has a grainy texture and a mildly vegetal flavour that suggests it may have been steamed in a leaf. the spicy chutney has the fresh flavour of coconut and body from the ground lentils. the sambar has a gentle sweetness typical of a south canara sambar. ▪ Many other dishes like green dosa, open butter masala dosa, Uppitu, kesari bath etc… “Conclusion” Mysore is famous for its rich culture and tasty food. Entice your taste buds with Mysore’s cuisine consisting of innumerable snacks, breakfast delicacies, a wide variety of sweet dishes, the popular Ragi Mudde (dynamite of nutrition), and main course.
