Year 7 – Wide Reading Project You will learn to: Read regularly and with concentration. Feel confident about choosing books yourself. Try out and enjoy different types of books. How to read a wide range of books Read at least TWO books per term. Read a variety of fiction genres - at least THREE different fiction genres during the year. Read a variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction. Your choice of books may include both in-school and out-of-school reading, but not texts we study in class or texts you have read in the past. What types of genres are there? FICTION genres - adventure, thriller, mystery, detective, science fiction, fantasy, animal, poetry, short stories, romance, war, real-life problems, anthology of short stories etc. NON-FICTION genres - biography, autobiography, travel, history, science, sports etc. How will the wide reading programme be assessed? Terms 1-3: Each term you will write TWO Reading Log entries. On completion of each log entry, place it in the class Lever Arch file under your name. Ask the teacher to add a star to your name on the chart. Term 3: At the end of Term 3 you will hand in your completed Reading Log with SIX entries. Create a NEW MICROSOFT WORD DOCUMENT. 2. Head up EACH NEW Reading Log entry with this information about your book in a SMALL TEXT BOX: A. B. C. D. E. F. Author Title Genre (kind of book) Number of pages When started When finished 3. Write THREE paragraphs for each Reading Log entry. Start each paragraph with one of the paragraph starters below. Paragraphs should be at least 3 sentences long with examples and explanations. 4. Choose THREE of the following paragraph starters and write 3-4 full sentences on each, giving information from the book to explain. Each log should use a range of different paragraph starters. 5.
