Home work 3 An economy that was in trouble and a debt-ridden nation were the causes of the French Revolution. The monarchy in France was successfully overthrown, and a republic was established. But like most revolutions, the French Revolution persisted for a long time. In 1804 a new monarch, Napoleon, came to power in Paris for a brief while. But what may have happened if Napoleon had won an election as opposed to gaining control through a coup? Napoleon made considerable changes after taking over the leadership. Napoleon is credited with reforming the French educational system. Other government sectors must undergo considerable and immediate reform in order to change and improve the whole educational system. Napoleon most likely would have had a parliament that would have limited his authority if he had been elected. A government that imposes checks cannot function in a nation that needs rapid reform. Napoleon's parliament meant that many of its members would have interests other than those of their constituents or of themselves, which would influence their choice to restrict Napoleon's novel ideas. Napoleon also introduced nationalist concepts to France. These concepts were not common in pre-revolutionary France, where the majority of citizens were peasants working in agriculture. It would be difficult to implement a particular political ideology in a democratic society since different members of parliament would hold different political views on a wide range of issues, much to how Napoleon's numerous wars and conflicts eventually brought an end to his rule. In conclusion, Napoleon could not have carried out his plan of action without Absolutism; he would have been a weak Napoleon if he had been elected.
