WASTE TURNED INTO ART Jumoko Olowookere runs Aferica’s first Wate museum in Labadan, Nigeria. Creating artwork from discarded materials like car tires, plastics, fabrics, and more. Nigerians are increasingly using waste to raise awareness of environmental issues. With over 200 million people, Nigeria faces a significant plastic waste problem, often seen in littered streets and waterways leading to the Gulf of Guinea. Olowookere was inspired to start her collection after witnessing the waste generated in her kitchen. The museum showcases not only her creation but also artwork from other artists made from waste material like car tires, and bottle tops.
