Post-Lab Questions
2. Classifying chemical reactions helps chemists predict the possible
products that will form when two or more substances are mixed.
Complete and balance the following equations by predicting the
products of each chemical reaction.
1. Write a balanced chemical equation for each reaction 1–8. Classify
each reaction using the information provided in the Background section (see Table 2).
Reaction 1:
a. Double replacement:2 NaOH(aq) + CuSO4(aq) → Na2SO4 + Cu(OH)2
2Mg (s) + O2 (g) --> 2MgO (s)
Reaction 2:
b. Combination:4 Al(s) +3 O2(g) → 2Al2O3 (s)
Mg (s) + 2HCl (aq) --> MgCl2 (aq) + H2 (g)
Reaction 3:
(NH4)2CO3 --> 2NH3 (g) + CO2 (g) + H2O (l)
c. Combustion: C6H12O6(s) +6 O2(g) → 6CO2 (g) + 6H2O (l)
Reaction 4:
CaCO3 (g) + 2HCl (aq) --> CaCl2 (s) + H2CO3
Reaction 5:
∆
d. Decomposition: CaCO3(s) →
H2CO3 quickly decomposes to H2O and CO2
CaO (s) + CO2 (g)
CuCl2 (aq) + Zn (s) --> ZnCl2 (aq) + Cu (s)
e. Single replacement: Fe(s) + Pb(NO3)2(aq) → Fe(NO3)2 (aq) + Pb (s)
Reaction 6:
3CuCl2 (aq) + 2Na3PO4 (aq) --> Cu3(PO4)2 (aq) + 6NaCl (aq)
Reaction 7:
3. (Optional) Complete the Classifying Chemical Reactions worksheet.
NaOH (aq) + HCl (aq) --> H2O (l) + NaCl (aq)
Reaction 8:
