Image: iStockphoto/comzeal While not every programmer may follow the oft-repeated advice to learn at least one new programming language each year, most developers will continue to build their skills throughout their career. Many programmers find their job requires them to periodically brush up on new programming languages and their dialects, software frameworks, and tools. Knowing what to learn and when can be difficult, particularly when new software frameworks and tools are created every day. For an existing programmer, the trigger for learning a new language might be a particular problem that needs solving, the requirement to take over someone else's code, or just curiosity about a new programming language generating buzz. For beginner programmers, the priorities will be subtly different, with the steepness of the learning curve having a notable effect on whether they stick with a programming language. Renowned programmer John Carmack, cofounder of id Software and CTO of Oculus VR, says there's no problem starting with a higher-level programming language that abstracts away much of the complexity of how computers work, but advises learners delve into the workings of that language. "You should try and 'find the excitement' in even the most simple data processing tasks. There are layers and layers ofthings going on in just compiling and running the simplest program that are worth investigating," according to an early blog post. Cofounder of Stack Overflow Joel Spolsky goes further and recommends programmers learn a lowerlevel language, such as C. "Coding in C gives programmers a better idea of what the computer is actually doing, in that it is a low-level language whose instructions more closely resemble those being executed by the computer's CPU than those of a high-level language," he told TechRepublic. "A lot of programmers these days will end up learning a higher level language--such as Python, Ruby, or Java--and then not even really have a good grasp on anything that is causing that code in the language to execute and therefore not appreciating why things are slow or weird. "The idea is to have a really good comprehension of what happens at the level of abstraction below the level where you work, of what the CPU is actually doing." Almost no one reads the manual, if it even has one. We learn very little in formal ways, relying much more on asking others, experimenting, and observing. What we don’t do is recognize the power this has to enrich our lives and give us far more knowledge and capability than we imagine. By consciously and deliberately learning to learn we could learn more, faster, and make changes to our lives accordingly. If organizations want to survive and remain profitable well into the future, they must allow people more time and freedom to engage in projects that stretch their abilities and to interact with people from a wide array of backgrounds and experiences. They need to deliberately avoid groupthink and deliberately allow dissent and open conversation. By coupling teams or project members with debriefings and discussions about what was learned and what changed in their thinking, people would develop patterns of deliberate learning. Deliberate learning requires feedback, conscious thought, and interaction with others to become learning. The results need to be reflected in actions and changes in behaviors. Deliberate reflection, fun, and results lead to enduring learning. This is not to make informal learning formal, but to ensure that learning is deliberate and thoughtful rather than, as usual, accidental and random. With a web page or online service, load time is the total time it takes for the user to view the page or use the service. As more file requests are required and file sizes are increased, the longer it takes to load. 3. With performance, load describes the complexity or requirements it takes the software, hardware, or computer to perform an action. For example, earlier games with basic graphics environments do not require as much load as today's more advanced games. The environment in today's games could have blades of grass, leafs on trees, more textures, and other objects that require more of a load on the computer and graphics card. 4. When referring to electronics, a load is any circuit or device opposing electrical current. Load in Electronics Let's understand it in a layman approach: So, first thing here is “What is load”? Then we will understand what active and passive load is. Load: A simple definition of load (In the reference of electrical energy) is anything which consumes energy, which is provided by source. In actual load consumes the electrical energy and transforms it into any other form of energy (Heat, light etc.). In our day-to-day life, we observe so many loads in our house itself. As you can see in the above image, bulb here act as a load. It consumes the electrical energy from the main power supply and then convert it into light energy & thermal energy. In the same way all the other electronics appliances connect with the main power supply in our home and consume energy and based on their consumption load analysis chart is prepared. So, i think now you must have a clear understanding of load. Now let's understand about active & passive load. Before going on active and passive load lets understand about active and passive devices. Active devices are those devices which require some voltage or current for its operation. Like diode is an active component so it requires a voltage for its operation. Active components fall in non-linear category. Passive devices are those devices which do not require any external source for their operation. Examples are resistor, capacitor etc. Also, passive components fall in linear category. So, in any circuit where passive element works as a load is referred as passive load. While in case of active load, active element works as a load in circuit. You can see in the above image that output is being taken from the transistor. So, transistor acts here as an active load. And in this figure, you can see an RC passive filter. Its actually a first order high pass filter. As you can see here output is taken across resistor, which is passive element. So here the load offered is passive in nature. Basically, active load can be used in the circuit for automatic testing of power supplies & to check whether the output voltage & current are within their specification from no load to maximum load or not. Resistors can also be used for the same purpose but here you will have to change the value of the load manually. So this is one application i talked about little bit.
