[There is the SRI (Student Reading Inventory) it accesses the reading level of all students in the school. The assessment is given three times a semester to establish growth. The initial assessment may determine who gets placed in Read 180 – a class for those whose level is below reading level basically below a 100. This can make students feel inadequate and foster a defeatist attitude. Our teaching can be affected by the students not being able to comprehend the reading material] 3. [Th existing professional development opportunities our school has for developing assessment literacy for new and veteran teachers are our WICOR Wednesdays which are used to introduce new reading, summarizing and chunking strategies] Other Important Information: ECSE 8562 Using Data to Meet the Needs of Diverse Learners Summer 2020 Is there anything else we should know about the school before we access your presentation? Think about anything that might affect the project (your choice of options 1-6) you are proposing. Are there a lot of new teachers who might not know as much about assessment so you will need to include more background information? Are there some veteran teachers who are stuck in their ways and would not react positively to this kind of professional development? What kind of support would your administration give if you were to implement your plan? Tell us anything else that might help us understand your unique school setting. [We have a few teachers, not exactly veterans but they have had no support who might be stuck in their ways/maybe just do not understand the concepts/teaching strategies. Our English administrator is very supportive in anything that involves assisting the students and introducing them to new novels. The school is Title I and predominately houses Black and Spanish kids with a smattering of Asian, Indian, African and White]
