Conceptual Statement
The use of beads in my work is largely inspired by the reed maidens, whose cultural values
appeal to me as an artist. This has evolved to be part of my artistic repertoire and growing up
in Stanger, Groutville the concept of friendship played a critical role in my early years at
Aldenville Primary, hence the piece ME & YOU BUDDY. This piece depicts friendship and
companionship and captures the nostalgic memories of my years growing up and walking to
school with my best friend. Many of my choices have been largely influenced by the lessons I
picked up playing with my buddy. This has allowed me to harness the multiple lessons that I
picked up from this encounter and channel them into my art and work ethics.
