Load ratings as given in this cata log are based on an average life of 2500 hours and a minimum life of 500 hours for 90% of an apparently identical group of bearings (B-10 Life). Parallel Since many factors affect the limiting speeds of ball thrust bearings, it is not possible to accurately calcu late these speeds. Frequently, speed limits must be determined by previous experience on bearings operating under similar conditions. The factors that affect speed limits are: The bearing size. The larger the bearing, the lower the speed limit. ism is defined as the variation in thickness of the load section, or the variation in distance from the bottom of the race groove to the back face of the individual race. The standard method for checking parallelism is shown in figure 1. The total amount of out-of-parallelism is the difference between the maximum and minimum indicator readingswhen the plate is rotated one full revolution. Flatness is not as important as parallelism for bearing performance, unless a no load or very light load condition exists. Under normal load conditions, the small amount of out-of-flatness that could be present would be ab sorbed by the resilience of the race material. 38 Figure 2 2. The bearing proportions. A bearing of light sec tion will have a higher speed limit than a bearing of heavy section. 3. The bearing load. The heavier the load, the higher the temperature, the lower the speed limit. At high speeds, however, a minimum amount of load must be presentto accommodatethe gyroscopicandcen trifugal forces. Axial Runout Listed Speed Limits Axial runout is measured by the method illustrated in figure 2. It indicates performance of the assem bled unit under a specific load condition. Under light loads, axial runout is the addition of the out-ofparalleiism and out-of-flatnessofthe bearing. Under heavier loads, the out-of-flatness is less important and parallelism becomes the determining factor. Approximate speed limits are shown in the individ ual bearing specification tables. These limits apply to moderate loads and suitable oil lubrication. For heavier loads, and/or grease lubrication, the speed limit should be reduced. Higher speeds than those listed can be achieved with special provisions. Consult the factory for assistance.
