Dynamic load is defined as the load acting on a
rotating bearing. Load ratings as given in this cata
log are based on an average life of 2500 hours and
a minimum life of 500 hours for 90% of an apparently
identical group of bearings (B-10 Life). Capacities
under different life requirements can be readily
calculated from the nomograph.
Static load is defined as a load acting on a non
rotating bearing. The basic static load ratings pub
lished in this catalog are in accordance with the

Parallelism and Flatness
Permissible Speeds
In precision applications, the most important stan
dards are those of parallelism and flatness. Parallel
Since many factors affect the limiting speeds of ball
thrust bearings, it is not possible to accurately calcu
late these speeds. Frequently, speed limits must be
determined by previous experience on bearings
operating under similar conditions.
The factors that affect speed limits are:
The bearing size. The larger the bearing, the lower
the speed limit.

Axial Runout
Listed Speed Limits
Axial runout is measured by the method illustrated
in figure 2. It indicates performance of the assem
bled unit under a specific load condition. Under light
loads, axial runout is the addition of the out-ofparalleiism and out-of-flatnessofthe bearing. Under
heavier loads, the out-of-flatness is less important
and parallelism becomes the determining factor.
Approximate speed limits are shown in the individ
ual bearing specification tables. These limits apply
to moderate loads and suitable oil lubrication. For
heavier loads, and/or grease lubrication, the speed
limit should be reduced. Higher speeds than those
listed can be achieved with special provisions.

Material
Dynamio load is defined as the load acting on a
rotating bearing. Dynamic load ratings in this cata
log are based on an average life of 2500 hours and
a minimum life of 500 hours for 90% of an apparently
identical group of bearings (B-10 Life). Capacities
under different life requirements can be readily
calculated from the nomograph.

Operating Conditions
static load is defined as the load acting on a non
rotating bearing. The basic static load ratings pub
lished in this catalog are in accordance with the
following AFBMA definition. The Basic static load
rating is the central thrust load causing a total per

Wobble Plate Assemblies
Andrews’ wobble plate assemblies are supplied complete with precision
ground ball grooves on both thrust surfaces, ball-and-retainer assembly,
and outboard thrust plates. Variations include straight or splined bores and
special high capacity designs. Tolerance standards can be tailored to com
mercial applications or to more exacting uses such as aircraft hydraulic
pumps. Accurate matching of all components guarantees high performance.
