Ask your students to read the scenarios and write a response to them using the Third Conditional clause. You may use them as speaking cards too. You may view the suggested responses below each scenario. Scenario 1: Student: "I didn't bring an umbrella, and it started pouring rain. Now I'm completely wet." Response: "If you had brought an umbrella, you wouldn't have gotten soaked." Scenario 2: Student: "I accidentally deleted an important document from my computer. Now I can't find it anywhere." Response: "If you hadn't deleted the document, you would still have it." Scenario 3: Student: "I left my phone on the table at the café, and now it's gone. Someone must have taken it." Response: "If you hadn't left your phone unattended, it wouldn't have been taken." Scenario 4: Student: "I ate too much junk food last night, and now I have an upset stomach." Response: "If you hadn't eaten so much junk food, you wouldn't have an upset stomach." Scenario 5: Student: "I didn't lock my car doors, and someone stole my bag from inside." Response: "If you had locked your car doors, your bag wouldn't have been stolen." Scenario 6: Student: "I stayed up all night watching movies, and now I'm exhausted for the exam." Response: "If you hadn't stayed up all night watching movies, you wouldn't be so exhausted for the exam." Scenario 7: Student: "I didn't save my work, and my computer crashed. Now I've lost all my progress." Response: "If you had saved your work, you wouldn't have lost all your progress when the computer crashed." Scenario 8: Student: "I didn't study for the test, and now I failed it." Response: "If you had studied for the test, you wouldn't have failed." Scenario 9: Student: "I left my wallet at home, and now I can't buy lunch." Response: "If you hadn't left your wallet at home, you would be able to buy lunch." Scenario 10: Student: "I didn't follow the recipe instructions, and now my dish tastes terrible." Response: "If you had followed the recipe instructions, your dish wouldn't taste terrible."
