Flight Operations Division - High Terrain Procedures
OXY & E/O Escape Procedures
Instructions:
When approaching High Terrain areas which require special escape
procedures in case of Cabin Pressure Malfunctions or Engine Failure:
• The PF shall brief the procedure to follow in each segment:
Initial descent level, Lateral path and diversion options.
• If an FMC Escape Route is available – it should be displayed as
RTE2 (DO NOT ACTIVATE RTE2 for normal operations)
• If an FMC Escape Route is not available – Escape waypoints
should be entered as FIXs Points
• TERRAIN shall be displayed on at least one ND
• Refer to Jeppesen Airway Manuals for County Contingency
procedures
• Check WXR at alternates before entering High Terrain areas
• “Divert to…” is the recommended airport for diversion (WXR
and NOTAMS allowing)
Off-Route flying:
• Do not descent below published Grid MORA (in the JeppPro
Application or in the EFB (787))
• After joining published Routes or Procedures descent to
published minimum altitudes as needed
Actions in case of Engine Failure during flight:
• Initiate Engine Inoperative Cruise/Drift down (FMC E/O CRZ LVL)
• If unable to maintain GRID MORA follow OXYGEN Escape Route
• Performance, WXR and Terrain allowing – fly the shortest route to
the nearest suitable airport
• [777/787] Jettison fuel to maintain Route MOCA/Grid MORA
Actions in case of Cabin Pressure Malfunctions:
• Initiate Emergency Descent to route MOCA/Grid MORA
• Follow Escape route instructions – fly the shortest escape route
to reach FL100 as soon as practicable
• Above FL100 - Fly at Route MOCA/Grid MORA (Climb/Descent
may be required
