Bayad, Sophia Marie S. 2021102444 Innovation/Invention 1. What is your concept of innovation? Innovation is often defined as applying new ideas or methods to achieve better results. However, there is no single, universally accepted definition of innovation. Innovation can take many different forms. It can be a new product, a new process, a new business model, or a new way of doing things. Sometimes, it may even be something as simple as a new idea. However, it does not necessarily have to be completely new, but it can also be an improvement on something already existing. 2. What is the difference between innovation and invention? Innovation and invention are both terms that describe the process of creating something new. However, the two terms are often interchanged, which can lead to confusion. innovation typically refers to improving upon an existing concept, and it can be motivated by a desire to improve something that already exists, even if there is no specific need or problem to be addressed. At the same time, invention refers to coming up with a completely new concept. Invention is also generally more complex than innovation and is often driven by a need or problem that needs to be solved. 3. Why does innovation matter? Innovation is significant to the changing world as it is one of the most powerful tools available for driving growth. Innovation is essential to the world because it leads to the developing of new products and services that can improve people's lives. It can also produce new jobs and industries and drive economic growth. By coming up with new products, services, or ways of doing things, businesses can tap into new markets and open up new growth oportunities. It is also important for social progress as it can help to solve social problems and improve the quality of life for everyone. 4. What particular product innovation are you planning to do as a group? Our group brainstormed the ideas for the product innovation that we would like to do. In our group, the three of us are in the same program, Civil Engineering, and one member is in Chemical Engineering. We agreed to innovate a product related to our course: a Solar-powered table with a motion sensor. It is an innovation from the Solarpowered table inspired by the product of ConnecTable. The motion sensor will detect if a person sits at the table's chairs and provide electricity from solar power. 5. What specific problem do you think your proposed product can solve? A specific problem that our proposed product can solve is electricity will be accessible to the public. Finding an electric port in public spaces, even malls, was hard. Most people like me had experienced a phone with a dead battery because I didn't have a power bank. It was hard to contact someone if their phone was already at its low battery. It will also solve the question of how it will store energy from the sun, as the electric port and the added appliances and lights on the table will only be operated if a person sits on the chair. 6. What are your big ideas about this proposed product? As mentioned above, the charging port won't be the only device that will be accessed in the solar-powered table but also an electric fan and lights. I thought the product would be practical if placed in universities, but it is recommended in open spaces like public parks. The motion sensor and storage will be a significant part of the product as the electricity will only operate if an individual uses it, and the electric storage will stock energy even if it rains. Another thing is, because of the hot weather in our country, fans will be added. Another one is the lights, the world is unsafe nowadays, and that's why it will be helpful if there are lights in a space where a person wants to stay for a while. 7. Who will be your target audience? The main target audience for the product is the students. We also consider the fact that non-renewable electricity is costly these days. Because of blended learning, students have consecutive face-to-face and online classes. It's hard to find electric ports in public if we need to charge our devices. It will also serve as a functional workspace for students who want to concentrate outside. Lastly, it will be a safe space for them at night as they can charge their devices, and lights will produce visibility.
