Task assigned and executed
As an HR intern, I was tasked with the project of implementing a
Performance Management System. To begin the project, my manager
instructed me to spend the first two weeks familiarizing myself with the
industry and the company's operations. Specifically, I was asked to review
the company's annual reports for the past three years in order to gain
insight into their current and past situation. This involved analyzing the
company's strategy, vision, and mission, as well as their accomplishments
and challenges over the past three years. By doing so, I was able to gain a
comprehensive understanding of the company's financial standing and
position within the industry. Overall, these two weeks provided me with a
valuable foundation for understanding the company's operations and goals.
Task assigned and executed
During the following two weeks, my manager instructed me to focus on
understanding the HR department's operations. The HR team consisted of
15 members with Mr. P. Rajesh as the head. To provide me with an
introduction to the department, Ms. Monall Ray, the Deputy Manager-HR,
gave me an overview of the team and showed me the recruitment list. She
asked me to document my learnings in a Word file for future reference.
Subsequently, I commenced working on my main project, which involved
the implementation of a performance management system. I learned that
IGL employs a Balanced Scorecard approach to evaluate employee
performance. Ms. Ray assigned me the task of understanding all the
performance measures utilized for appraising employee performance
within two weeks.
Task assigned and executed
During the final two weeks of the project, Mr. Rajesh was absent as he went to the
North-East of India for recruitment purposes. Upon his return, he showed me the
recruitment sheet and explained the parameters used to select candidates. I also had a
meeting with the deputy managers, during which I submitted my report and received
feedback on my mistakes. They also provided me with practical knowledge and insights
regarding the performance management system.
Furthermore, I learned that IGL plans to adopt the Real-time Appraisal strategy to enhance
employee productivity for the organization's benefit.
This is the comprehensive report I
submitted to the company at the end
of the internship.
Learnings from Internship
The six-week internship provided me with a comprehensive understanding of
not only the HR department but also the Oil and Gas industry as a whole. I
learned about the various methods and parameters used by companies to
appraise employee performance and the changes made to improve customer
service. The experience of working in the HR department was particularly
beneficial for me, as it enhanced my communication skills and provided me with
an opportunity to interact with the department head.
Overall, this internship was a valuable learning experience that I will carry with
me throughout my career.
