OLDMEAD PRIMARY Australia SCHOOL Our Journey to Save the World We are located in State, Country. Our School's mission is to help every living organism on Earth have a bright and safe future! LARISSA TRISTAN SEBASTIAN PAISLEY Group Leader Researcher Resource Collector Speaker The Grade five students at Oldmead Primary School have decided that they were going to attempt to achieve all 17 of the sustainability goals for the world alongside the United Nations. They understood that there are significant issues facing the future of our planet and they wanted to do something about it and all in 10 weeks! Here's Their Story OUR FIRST GOAL To put together a team of people that felt the same way about the problems the world was facing! OUR SECOND GOAL To set clear goals for our community to achieve and to use our voice to get as many people involved as possible. THIRD GOAL To build a community of people who care about the environment and all of the living beings on this planet! WRITING TO THE MINISTER We decided to write a letter to the minister of education to invite him to our school. We wanted to talk about our feelings regarding educational standards in rural areas of our country. THE RESULT The minister for education turned up at our school and held a discussion with the families regarding how we can help communities less fortunate than ours. The result was that he promised to increase funding to schools in rural areas to bridge the gap NO MEAT Each and every THURSDAY Thursday our whole school attempts to minimise the amount of meat they consume. This action limits the amount of greenhouse gasses that enter the atmosphere and fights WALK TO SCHOOL Every student walks to WEDNESDAY school on Wednesdays. As we know cars and buses cause a lot of pollution. We have started a 'walking and talking club' and some families are even walking to COMMUNITY FOOD BANK Families in our community have decided that each Sunday evening, they will take a look in your fridge and any food that is about to expire will be collected and taken to the local food bank to feed the hungry and homelsss 'I never realised how powerful our students voice was until I saw them drive this kind of change in our community' 'To see the children drive change like this is remarkable, this community will never be the same again.' 'The future of our children is our responsibility and this change was one we all needed!' THE FUTURE OF OLD MEAD As a school we managed to achieve all of the goals we set our community and we are very happy about the outcome! Our community will continue to do our best to make the world a better place for everyone who lives on Earth DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR US?
