THE MUJADDIDI ORDER PRELIMINARY PRACTICES Lesson I SCHOOL OF SUFI TEACHING (A branch of The Institute of Search for Truth) www.sufischool.org Lesson I Lesson I of the Mujaddidi practices is a meditation that the students have to do on different subtle centres of consciousness (Lata’if). Heart (Qalb) is the first subtle centre. Its location in our body is two inches below the left nipple. Our meditation is different from other meditations. The student has to simply say an intention and sit quietly for 35-40 minutes. Before starting the meditation, you have to say the intention. The intention is : I turn my attention to my heart and my heart turns its attention to the Holy Essence. It is necessary for you to establish a time for meditation and try to sit regularly and punctually. It is only necessary at this time that 35 to 40 minutes are devoted to the practice. In our meditation, posture is not important. You can sit in any position and even change posture while meditating. Lying down, however, is not appropriate. When you start meditating, you may feel a rush of thoughts coming in and out of your mind, but do not bother about them. In our technique, we do not try to control our thoughts. In other words, we do not try to concentrate while we are meditating. According to our technique, meditation means to keep away physically and mentally from our worldly activities in order to sit for a while sincerely paying attention to the Holy Essence. Simply, you have to sit, turn your attention, and wait for the blessings. You do not have to continually recite anything. After some time, thoughts will subside and you may enter a state which is called drifting. It may seem to be like sleep, but you will in fact be lost in meditation. In this state, you are not aware of yourself. After some time, you will begin to feel some activity in your heart as movement, light, sensation, pain, expansion or other manifestations, and you will also note changes in your behaviour and your mode of thinking. For all this, you need only sit sincerely following the instructions and allowing the divine essence to attend to you. Lesson 1 Page 2
