THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING A MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERATE IN THIS
DIGITAL ERA
Being a media and information literate individual enables people to
interpret and make informed judgments as users of information and media.
It also enables them to become skillful creators of information and media
messages in their own right. There will be an improvement on the quality of
life because media and information literacy aid the people to increase their
critical thinking skills and improve their ability to create solid arguments
based from facts. If the people are literate in these kinds of things, they may
become more active in political participation like voting in elections, helping
political campaign, contacting officials, and protesting. As a literate in media
and information literacy, an individual may be given better opportunities by
having skills that meets the expectations of the industry or workplace that
want to get into. This also helps the people in improving their learning
environment by having the ability to know where to access credible and
reliable sources of information and enhance learning experience.
Being literate in media and information literacy helps in uniting the
people. It inspires the different people with different cultures to co-exist. This
motivates the people to accept diversity and these literate people create
more cohesive social units. Being literate prevents the people from becoming
ignorant and become more accepted in the society.
