Topic 6.1 Digestion (30 marks)
1. Draw a large diagram of the human digestive system. Make sure the diagram
clearly shows the interconnections between the various organs especially the
pancreas, gall bladder and small intestines. (Artists in the class: this shouldn't
take the majority of the time but each part of the digestive system needs to be
recognizable. Also remember to leave space on the sides for annotations.
(8 marks)
2. Label and annotate the function of the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small
intestine, large intestine, rectum, anus, liver, pancreas and gall bladder.
(5 marks)
3. On your diagram label the source(s) (where the enzyme is secreted) and next
to each label outline the substrate, products and optimum pH of the following
enzymes. (9 marks)

Amylase - place next to both sources
Lipase
Protease - place next to both sources

4. On the back of your diagram add a labeled drawing of villi. (4 marks)
5. Next to the pancreas add a labeled drawing of the secretory gland cells and
the ducts that secrete the digestive enzymes. (2 marks)
6. On your diagram label where the bile and HCl are released and annotate
their function in the digestion system. (2 marks)
