Overview (Scope):
This feature covers the overall functionality and use cases in 5G18A.
•
The AirPhone is connected to gNB via CPRI – none RU used
•
HW configuration : Airphone & gNB configuration shall be based on ASIA/ASIK + ABIK
•
Single OAM (SOAM) on the gNB configuration and StandAlone OAM on Airphone
•
Support of RU C&M messages/ services  Radio Stub (RU Emulated on ASIA/ASIK in Airphone)
•
Support RFSW RP1 IF (or extended IF): Interface between Node OAM and RFSW
•
gNB GNSS (1PPS & ToD) source used for AirPhone and gNB sync via CPRI link.
•

RU/U-plane (I/Q data) emulation not supported (Beamforming, RF functionalities testing out of scope)
The Radio Stub shall handling the "real" RFSW functions/services with some restrictions to be
determined (TBD):
o
(shutdown, restart CPRI, SW upgrade, Temperature conrtol, etc)
eLLF out of scope, not supported before 5G19

(4a) Ethernet enabled on CPRI to RF module.
CPRI config is determined/auto-negotiated. RU SW is updated if necessary.
(4b) RAU detects RU
(4c) IP address for RU allocated. C&M link is established between the RAU and RU.
(4d) L1 Control S/W on ABIK/K2 configures CPRI Links.
(5) RU communication (5a) O&M communication to RFSW RP1.
(5b) Fiber length (ABIK to RU) is determined by L1 software and OAM software determines if
Fiber length has been exceeded, or fiber differential length has been exceeded (5GC000350).
(5c) Management of dynamic timing
(6) L1 Configuration - The SOAM is involved with L1 configuration (cable length detection)
(6a) SOAM messages to L1 for CPRI configuration

Feature impacts:
RFSW:
 Radio Stub (RU C&M services emulated) to be implemented on ASIK/ASIA in Airphone  It should handle all
the RFSW functions/services.
 Radio Stub SW could be based on existing RU SW or implemented from scratch
OAM:
 RU C&M messages/ services to be supported through the extended RFSW RP1 IF
 Addtional delay introduced to the response of OAM SW request messages to Radio Stub (RU emulator)
CPRI/L1:
 The RFSW RP1 route to be updated/extended as it is terminated in ASIK/ASIA in Airphone where the Radio stub
is located.
 RFSW RP1 communication should include a new SICAD address configuration (Syscom route) in Airphone side
to extend the RP1 over CPRI route until the ASIK/ASIA in Airphone.
 CPRI – CPRI configuration/Synchronization
PSSW:
 Radio Stub (DHCP client) shall obtains IP address over CPRI? from FCT AXM in ASIA (DHCP Server)
 Radio Stub should able to provide/update the RU SW version on the request of Node OAM.

- L1 impacts (1)
CPRI/L1:
 The RFSW RP1 route to be updated/extended as it is terminated in ASIK/ASIA in Airphone where the Radio stub
is located.
 RFSW RP1 communication should include a new SICAD address configuration (Syscom route) in Airphone side
to extend the RP1 over CPRI route until in the ASIK/ASIA in Airphone.

1. The route from Radio Stub in ASIx to CPRI in Airphone could have some impacts on ABIK/L1 SW in Airphone?
2. Dedicated CPRI config is needed? New module to be developed in L1-Airphone?
3. How it could be handled the CPRI configuration/auto-negotiation(CPRI rates for ex.) ?
4. From 5GC000425, connection from ABIK/L1-SW to Radio Stub to be established at CPRI level in 5GC000633?

• FE FPGA should implement possibility to receive L3a messages and send the response (acknowledgement) messages.
• L3a messages are transferred over CPRI VSB region. With this protocol, RF module is sending “discovery messages” and L1 is
responding to the RF with acknowledgements.
Ethernet VSB regions ( CPRI) has to be established. IP address allocation, Ethernet configuration & optical transport connections

- L1 potentials impacts :
FPGA Impacts: No impacts identified.
L1 SW impacts:
 Airphone is time synchronized with gNB via the HDMI sync cable which synchronizes the BCN.N1 on both
sides.
As the Airphone is BCN synchronized via HDMI “sync in” port of ABIK  Need to check if a particular
configuration is mandatory at Airphone side.
 Ethernet bandwidth (pointer P) negotiation/configuration for Ethernet over CPRI connection establishment :
o Potential impact on CPRI config handle by L1SW.
o Check the operability of the Ethernet over CPRI with CPRI Master to Master connection.
 No really L1 impact, BBP impact for a new Syscom route establishment in Airphone side to extend the RP1
over CPRI communication until the Radio Stub (implemented in the ASIK/ASIA of Airphone).
