This topic is important.
South Korea condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Russias invasion is a violation of its territorial integrity and of the charter of the United
Nations.
Believes that talking about economic effects is important as it will also highlight the issues
brought by Russia’s actions to other countries.
Ideally bring the committee some structure so we propose the following mods in the first
day:
History of the conflict to give us a guideline on the core reasons why.
Causes of the conflict – will give us an idea the motives behind.
Stakeholders of the conflict, economically, socially etc.
Past UN conventions related to the topic
History of the conflict
 All started when the relations between the 2 states became hostile after the 2014 revolition.
 This was followed by several offenses from Russia, such as the annexation of Crimea, the
war on Donbas and the backing of separatist fighters in Donetsk and Luhansk.
 Russia therefore faced sanctions from the West. In addition, numerous bilateral agreements
were terminated and economic ties were severed.
 Escalated in 2021-2022 where Russian military build up on the border of Ukraine escalated
tensions between the 2 countries and strained bilateral relations.
 Ukraine broke diplomatic relations with Moscow in response to Russia’s invasion in 2022,
which bears cause to the issue we as a committee are discussing today.
Causes of the conflict
 Putin claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin, he says that NATO’s 2008 decision in
favor of eventual Ukrainian membership brought an existential threat to Russia’s borders,
and still others trace the conflict back to the Cold War’s end and the failure of the West to
support Russia adequately after the collapse of the Soviet Union
 In Ukraine, there is no question that Putin lit the match when he ordered Russian troops to
invade on February 24
 Putin told the Russian people that he was conducting a “special military operation” to
“denazify” Ukraine and prevent NATO from expanding to Russia’s borders. But given how
seriously he miscalculated, we must ask what he was really thinking. We know from Putin’s
own writings, and from various biographers like Philip Short, that the intermediate cause
was a refusal to see Ukraine as a legitimate state.
Past UN conventions related to the topic:
 Violation of the charter of the UN and of international law.
 NUMBER 1: The UNGA has also demanded that Russia reverse course on the attempted
illegal annexation of Ukraine. This was decided when 143 member states voted in favour,
with 5 voting against and 35 abstentions.
 Resolution S/RES/2623 27th February 2022 which called for an emergency special session
where a uniting for peace resolution was adopted for Ukraine.


s/prst/2022/3 which conveyed strong support for the secretary general’s efforts in the
search for a peaceful solution.
The minsk agreement which sought to end the donbas war between Russian separatist
groups and armed insurgent movements. We hope we can make a resolution as efficacious
as this.
