1. DNA model
2. 4 sets of DNA replication/transciption materials
Small equipment needed (per section of 24 students):
1. 4 scissors
2. 4 tape dispensers
3. blue recycling bin
4. tray of each of green and white nucleotide sequence strips
5. 4 mortar and pestle sets
6. 4 bent metal test tube racks
7. 4 funnels
8. 4 hooked Pasteur pipets
9. 2 bottles Na-EDTA solution (with red pipettor and 10 mL pipette)
10. 2 bottles 10% SDS (with blue pipettor and 1 mL pipette)
11. 2 squeeze bottles of 100% ethanol
12. large set of cheesecloth squares
13. small blue knife
Chemicals and solutions:



Na-EDTA solution
◦ NaCl 58.44 m.w. EDTA 372.24 m.w.
◦ 4.4 g of NaCl and 9.3 g of EDTA compound per litre of solution made up.
◦ Adjust to approx. pH 8.0 with concentrated NaOH.
10 % SDS (Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate / Laurel Sulphate)
◦ 50 g of SDS make up to 500 ml with distilled water.
70% Ethanol
◦ dilute from 95% ethanol by filling graduated cylinder to 700 mL with the
ethanol, then topping up to 950 mL with distilled water
