1 THESSALONIANS 5: LIVING IN THE DAY
LIGHT

v.1 – 11 ENLIGHTENED, EXPECTANT AND EQUIPPED
v.1 – 3 ENLIGHTENED THAT: Pre-tribulation – rapture –
Trib – com with church – 1,000 years – last judgement


V.2 The day of the Lord is like the coming of a
thief (Teaching of Jesus – Matthew 24:43-44)
o Unexpected and instant
 Event before the Lord Come
V.3 Before this time, non-believer says “peace
and safety”
o Inevitable for them
o It is like labor pains (Calamities, wars and
many other signs)
V.16 – 18 REJOICE:






V.4 We are delivered from darkness (From sin to
salvation – not knowing God, to knowing Him)
V.5 We are Brought into Light (Brought into the
knowledge of Christ)
V.6 We are Sober and not Asleep (responsive,
alert and not defenseless)
V.7 We aren’t in the same state as unbeliever
(tempted and is living in the flesh)


V.8 – 11 EQUIPPED BY:




V.8 Sound mind (govern by the Mind of Christ
and truths from the spirit)
o , Breastplate of Faith and Love (Vital
organs protected),
o Helmet of Salvation (Mind is protected
from lies of Satan about how bad n good)
V.9 Truth that through Christ we are Saved
V.10 Promise of resurrection (Source of Hope)
V.11 Fellowship of the Church (Taking care of
one another)
V.12 – 18 RECOGNIZE, RESTORE, AND REJOICE
V.12 – 13 RECOGNIZE THOSE:

V.12 who labor and teach among you
o V.13 Respect (and Love (pray with and
for, follow, thank you, gifts,) them (not
because of title but of what they do)
V.14 – 15 RESTORE THOSE:

V.14 who are lazy (1 Thess 4:11 – 12) Idlers
V.16 In Prayer with thanks (to battle anxiety)
V.17 In all times (to be dependent)
V.18 In everything not just for everything (to be
reminded of what the Lord had given)
o Because we are One with Christ
V.19 – 24 TRUST, TEST, and TRIUMPH
V.4 – 7 EXPECTANT BECAUSE:

who are fainthearted (1 Thess 4:14 – 17)
departed loved ones
who are weak (1 Thess 4:2 – 8) easily
tempted
 Be patient for them


V.19 TRUST THE HOLY SPIRIT
o That He will lead you to truth (John
16:13-14)
o That It is Him who convicts us of Our sins
(John 16:7-8)
o That He Teaches and Reminds
(John 14:26)
o That your salvation is secured
(Efeso 1:13-14)
o He
helps
in
Our
weakness
(Romans 8:26 -27)
V. 20 – 21 TEST PROPHECIES BY:
o V.20 Not avoiding prophecies about God
o V.21 Examining all things and doing that
is good
V.22 – 24 TRIUMPH BY:
o V.22 Walking away from sin (dead in sin)
o V.23 Being transformed by God into
Holiness
 Having pure spirit, soul and body
until the Day of the Lord
o V.24 God’s Faithfulness
25 – 26 Paul’s Last Request and Reminder
o V.25 Pray for them
o V.26 Greet the church as brethren in
Christ
o V.27 Read His letter for other believers
o V.28 Blessing them in the Name of Jesus
Christ
CONCLUSION: 1 Thess 5: Cherished God’s Word,
Manifested Faith, Hope, Love and Missionary Zeal.
“Those who live in the day light is assured in the promise,
is align with the purpose and instructions, and is applying
the guidance of the Spirit before the Day of the Lord.
Sober and awake, not Drunk and asleep.”
