1. Enumerate 10 available operating systems. (Get familiar with their corresponding
logos)
-
Fedora
Chrome OS
Windows 7
Oracle Linux
iOS
Debian
Android
Mac OS
Linux
Solaris
2. Explain how an OS manages memory.
is the capability of an operating system which handles or manages primary memory and
transports processes back and forth between main memory and disk during execution.
Memory management keeps track of each and every memory location, regardless of either
it is allocated to some process or it is free.
3. Differentiate a system software from an application software.
The main difference between system software and application software is that system
software are primarily designed to manage system-based resources and operations and acts
as an interface between application software and computer hardware, while application
software are primarily designed to help users perform specific tasks.
4. Give your own example of an application software.
-
Microsoft Word Office
Google Chrome
Safari
Web Browser
Video Editing Software
-
Google Drive
-
Microsoft Excel

Adobe Photoshop
5. Give your own example of a system software.
-
Programing Language Translators
Firmware
Blackberry
Mac OS
Chrome OS
Xbox System Software
PlayStation System Software
Nintendo System Software
6. Discuss the difference between a freeware, a shareware, and an open-source software.
Freeware software is software, most commonly proprietary, that is supplied at no monetary
cost to the end user. Shareware is commercial software that is offered free to users,
eventually either requiring or pushing users to pay for the continuous support of the
software. Open source software is software with source code that anyone can inspect,
modify, and enhance.
7. Enumerate programming languages that are considered object oriented which have
not been mentioned in this lesson.
-
Object-oriented Programming Languages
Java
PHP
Ruby
TypeScript
Python
8. Differentiate a compiler from an interpreter.
The primary distinction between a compiler and an interpreter is that a compiler analyzes
and translates the source code completely, whereas an interpreter only translates one line
at a time. It takes a compiler and an interpreter to put a programming language's
instructions into action.

9. Read the topic on how OS participates in the boot operation and enumerate the steps
which happen before the OS takes control of the computer.
-
-
Steps of Booting
The Startup - It is the first step that involves switching the power ON. It supplies electricity to
the main components like BIOS and processor.
BIOS: Power On Self Test - It is an initial test performed by the BIOS. Further, this test
performs an initial check on the input/output devices, computer’s main memory, disk drives,
etc. Moreover, if any error occurs, the system produces a beep sound.
Loading of OS - In this step, the operating system is loaded into the main memory. The
operating system starts working and executes all the initial files and instructions.
System Configuration - In this step, the drivers are loaded into the main memory. Drivers are
programs that help in the functioning of the peripheral devices.
Loading System Utilities - System utilities are basic functioning programs, for example,
volume control, antivirus, etc. In this step, system utilities are loaded into the memory.
User Authentication - If any password has been set up in the computer system, the system
checks for user authentication. Once the user enters the login Id and password correctly the
system finally starts.
10. Give examples of program codes which are interpreted rather than compiled.
<?php
echo "Hello, World!"
?><?phpECHO "Hello!<br>";echo
"Welcome to Developer
News<br>";Echo "Enjoy
<a11 of the ad-free articles<br>";?>
11. Categorize the following software, application or system software.
Application Software
Avastanti - virus
Inventory System
Microsoft Word
Disk Scanner
System Software
Pay roll system
Ubuntu
Image viewer
MySQL
Defragmenter
Screen Saver
