connector marked with a warning triangle.

4. Replacing SFP/QSFP optical transceivers
Information on how to replace a faulty SFP/QSFP optical transceiver.
4.1 Replacing SFPs
Information on how to replace a faulty SFP.
Before you start
WARNING!
Risk of eye damage caused by invisible laser beam.
Make sure that the laser beam is switched off when optical cables are installed.
NOTICE:
Overbending the optical fiber cables damages the cables and can detach or
damage the connectors. Do not bend optical fiber cables to a radius smaller than
the minimum radius of 50 mm (1.97 inches) for cables with a 5 mm (0.20 inches)
diameter, or 70 mm (2.76 inches) for cables with a 7 mm (0.28 inches) diameter.
Optical fibers are sensitive. The presence of contaminants lowers the mechanical
strength of the optical fiber and might dampen the transmission of light in the
fibers. Clean all optical fiber connectors before installation using an optical fiber
connector cleaning kit.
Do not remove SFP protection caps until inserting the optical fiber. When removed,
store the caps in a clean, sealed box.
Use Nokia provided SFPs to avoid the risk of operational issues.
NOTICE:

All radio units from hardware releases older than 5.1 require powering off before
replacing a faulty SFP or QSFP. For more information about radio units and their

This step is only valid if the primary common plug-in unit is being replaced. In case of
replacing the secondary common plug-in unit, commissioning is not mandatory.

Postrequisites
When the replacement is completed, connect the plug-in unit as described in the proper
installing and cabling manual.
Note:
It is recommended to use dust covers for all unused ports.
Cable the plug-in unit as it was cabled before the replacement. The same cables
must be connected to the same ports. Remember also about clamping the DC
cables and the GND cables.
Load a backup commissioning file with Element Manager after plugging in the
module.
Configuration reset needs to be performed when ASIA module is replaced in a
single core configuration or when the primary ASIA module is replaced in a dual
core configuration. No such reset is required during replacement of the secondary
ASIA in a dual core configuration.
5.2 Replacing common plug-in unit in SCF
How to replace common plug-in unit in case of failure.

Restart and commission the BTS using the saved backup SCF
Product code need to be updated manually or by using the Commissioning Wizard
in the WebEM.
The Commissioning Wizard uses a product code defined in a corresponding
hardware configuration object to identify a particular hardware topology and capability.
The product codes must be properly defined. If any hardware unit product code is
invalid, Comissioning Wizard reports it as an error and gives you a chance to fix it,
by using the Align HW type button.
NOTICE:
After clicking Align HW type the RF sharing related configuration are cleared.

Upload the correct software version.
If the common plug-in unit contains Factory Delivery Software (FDSW), use FDSW
Rescue Console to upgrade the common plug-in unit software to BTS software (the
same software level as on extension) For more information, see Operating
Documentation/Single RAN System/Commissioning and Configuring/Commissioning 5G
and SRAN BTS using WebEM/Upgrading FDSW using Rescue Console.

If any capacity units are removed permanently, leaving an empty slot, dummy
panels must be installed to the subrack. Make sure that every empty slot has a
dummy panel installed. The dummy panels ensure an optimal airflow and proper
cooling of the assembled modules. Dummy panels also protect the backplane
connectors from airborne contaminants.

back online if the fault 23:Incompatible SW version detected is raised.

5.4 Replacing the capacity plug-in unit in SCF
Instruction on how to replace capacity plug-in unit in the site configuration file (SCF).
Procedure

Start the WebEM application.

Go to Configuration>Configuration Management>Commissioning Wizard
window.

Edit the SCF
In the offline mode - load SCF. Click Load site configuration file button
and select desired SCF.

6.2.1 Replacing Nokia AirScale System Module Indoor AMIA
fans
Information on replacing Nokia AirScale AMIA subrack fans.
Purpose
The AirScale AMIA subrack includes fans with changeable airflow direction. If the fans fail or
become degraded, they must be replaced with new ones. Fans can be replaced from the
back side of the AMIA subrack.
Before you start
CAUTION!
Risk of personal injury.
Do not touch the fan blades when they are rotating.
NOTICE:
Replacing the fan assembly while the module is operational increases the heat and
causes performance degradation of the module.
Operating the module for a long time in high ambient temperature and without
proper cooling might damage the module. Replace the faulty fan as soon as
possible.
Do not rest the module with the fans facing down because the fans might break.
In case of one failed fan unit, both fan units need to be replaced at a time. Both fan units
must be from the same supplier. The reference number of the fan units is 087442A.

Put on the ESD wrist strap around your wrist and attach the strap to the available
grounding point.

Detach the back cover from the AMIA subrack by removing the six M4 screws, using a
TX20 screwdriver. Keep the screws for later use.

Disconnect the fan cable and pull the faulty fan out. Perform this operation for both
fans starting from the failed one.
Note:
To minimize the risk of overheating, always change one fan at a time.
Press the release trigger on the connector and pull out the connector.

If the heater fails or becomes degraded, it must be replaced with a new one.

AMOB is delivered with one heater allowing cold start from –25°C (–13°F) To reduce

AMOD submodules
Information on replacing individual elements of Nokia AirScale AMOD subrack.
There are currently two versions of AMOD: 102 and 203. The main differences that affect
the replacing instructions are:
Different inlet and outlet blower module housing
Different rear cover
Inlet air filter is now replaced from the front
Instructions affected by these changes are divided into separate sections. Replacing
instructions for PDU, heater and GNSS modules are the same for both versions.

6.4.1 Replacing air filter for AMOD subrack (version 102)
Air filter in AMOD version 102 is replaced from the rear.
Purpose
If the filter becomes clogged it must be replaced with a new one. An alarm is raised to
inform the user about the replacement need.
Before you start
NOTICE:
Air filter replacement is crucial for proper AMOD functioning. Always remember to:
Inspect the cabinet to ensure there are no openings in the chassis that could lead
to contamination.
Ensure that AMOD air inlet and outlet are not blocked.
Do not touch the air filter membrane. Do not bend or twist the filter.
Visually inspect the new filter for any defects. Ensure the gasket is undamaged.
Do not try to clean the filter as it is not designed for it.
Note:
Do not turn off the outlet blower during air filter replacement.
Note:
The rear cover of AMOD may come with an optional muffler. Graphics in this
instruction include the muffler.
Note:
Clear any debris accumulated on top of the subrack before opening or closing the
door.

6.4.2 Replacing air filter for AMOD subrack (version 203)
In AMOD version 203 air filter replacement is possible only from the front.
Purpose
If the filter becomes clogged it must be replaced with a new one. An alarm is raised to
inform the user about the replacement need. The filter should not be replaced in advance,
before the filter alarm is raised.
Before you start
NOTICE:
Air filter replacement is crucial for proper AMOD functioning. Always remember to:
Inspect the cabinet to ensure there are no openings in the chassis that could lead
to dirt contamination of the AMOD interior.
Ensure that AMOD air inlet and outlet are not blocked by anything.
Do not touch the air filter membrane. Do not bend or twist the filter.
Visually inspect the new filter for any defects. Ensure the gasket is undamaged.
Do not try to clean the filter as it is not designed for it.

7. Hardware replacement and/or upgrade
Information about faulty hardware impact on license files and a pool substitute process.
License files are tied to certain target identifiers of network elements. Broken Hardware
(HW) might have an impact on the license files, depending on whether the unit stores the
license files or the target identifier of the network element:
If a unit that does not store the license files and does not contain the target identifier of
the network element is swapped, there is no impact on the licenses.
If a unit that stores the license files is swapped, copies of the old license files must be
redistributed to the network element.
If a unit that contains the target identifier of the network element is swapped, new
license files must be created and distributed to the network element. The old licenses are
not needed anymore and can be released back to the pool by using the pool substitute
process. License pools must always be available so that new license files can be delivered
to the network element immediately when HW has been replaced.
Pool substitute process
Pool substitute process releases the license files that were tied to a broken target identifier
back to the pool for further usage.
Changing a transmission submodule does not affect licensing. If the system module is
broken, perform the pool substitute process. It includes the following steps:
1. Pool Substitute Request File including a reason code is generated by using the NetActTM
Network License Manager application.
2. Substitute Request File is imported to the Nokia License Generator.
3. Pool Substitute Permission File is created with the Nokia License Generator.
4. Pool Substitute Permission File is imported to the NetActTM Cluster of the broken HW.
5. Licenses related to the broken HW are released.
The same substitute processes are also applied in case of a typing error in target identifier
information in NetActTM (that is, when a wrong target for the license is selected). The broken
HW and error cases are separated by reason codes in the NetActTM Network License Manager
application as well as in the files that are generated in the NetActTM Regional Cluster and
delivered to License Generator.

8. Returning faulty units
Packaging and handling principles for returning faulty units.
This section describes the general packing/shipping principles that you need to follow when
sending units for repair. The purpose of these instructions is to avoid transportation
damages, which easily occur with wrongly packed units. A minor problem with the unit
packaging can lead to a major damage and an expensive repair, or warranty voidance.
See the respective chapter in this document for more information on how to remove and
replace the faulty unit.
8.1 How to handle units properly
Take extreme care when handling Nokia units without the Nokia supplied package.
Tip:
Nokia packaging materials are re-usable and can be stored for returning faulty units.
Handling the units
Keep equipment in a Nokia-supplied package during storage and transportation at all times
and only remove equipment from its packing right before installation or replacement. This
reduces the risk of damage by mechanical or environmental factors and maintains
traceability of the product and its accessories. Re-pack the faulty unit immediately to a
Nokia replacement product packing with care to protect it from further damage from
environmental and mechanical factors. Follow these principles:
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage the units with an open PCB. Wear an ESD wrist
strap or use a corresponding method when handling the plug-in units.
Wear suitable gloves to ensure a good grip when handling products.
Ensure dry and clean conditions before handling units with an open PCB.
Always put units with an open PCB in an ESD plastic package directly after their removal.
If possible, use a handle to carry the unit.
Units without a handle should be handled with extra care and any moving or carrying
should always be done using both hands.
Do not place the unit with the fan assembly resting on the ground and/or supporting the
unit's weight.

Always carefully lay down the unit on its even side, never directly on a wet or dirty surface
(use unit packing or suitable cover).

8.2 Hardware items to be removed prior to shipping a unit
for repair
A list of parts you need to remove prior to shipping a unit for repair.
Tip:
Always compare the new unit with the faulty one to make sure what needs to be
returned and what not.

8.3 Packing the faulty unit
Pack the faulty unit into the box in which the spare unit arrived.
Before you start
See the respective chapter in this document for more information on how to remove and
replace the faulty unit.
Procedure
1
Disassemble the faulty unit and carefully place it on a dry and clean surface.

Take the new unit out of the box.
3
Install the new unit.
4
Pack the faulty unit into the box.
NOTICE:
Insert rubber seals or plastic dust plugs into empty interface ports of the unit
you are returning.

8.5 General packing guidelines
Follow these guidelines to avoid transportation damages.
Packing labels
To return a unit, use Nokia single delivery package, if available, with the correct return
documents. Labels on Nokia boxes provide guidance on packing and shipping the unit. Unit
boxes with ATTENTION!!! warning labels must always be packed into additional shipping
boxes or shipped in a container/on a pallet.

Note:
Take extreme care when returning a Nokia unit in a packaging not supplied by Nokia.
Single delivery package
Usage of single delivery package is the most preferred option. Single delivery package can
be shipped without any extra overpack or pallet. Primary source for a single delivery package
is the package in which a spare unit arrived. Alternatively, you can source packages
separately from Nokia packaging suppliers.

Units with an open printed circuit board (PCB) must be protected against electrostatic
shocks. Use ESD-compliant plastic packing over the bare units and do the packing in ESDsafe environment. Consult your ESD coordinator.

Nokia unit package
The second best option, if a single delivery package is not available, is to use a Nokia unit
package. Unit boxes with ATTENTION!!! warning labels must always be packed into additional
shipping boxes or shipped in a container/on a pallet. Place the unit package into a shipping
box and use cushioning for protection. Package cushioning must cover all sides of the unit
package.
NOTICE:
Remember to use at least 5 cm (2 in.) of cushioning material at the bottom, sides and
top.

Heavy duty boxes
Third and least favorable option is to pack the unit in a heavy duty box with sufficient
protection. Use this method only when the first two options are unavailable.
NOTICE:
Remember to use at least 5 cm (2 in.) of cushioning material at the bottom, sides and
top.

8.6 How to load units into a container
Good quality wooden, plywood or corrugated containers are recommended.
For larger or heavier shipments, using containers for packing several units into one shipment
provides the best protection possible. Secure the units to prevent any unwanted movement
inside the container. Use only one type of filling material for each container.
NOTICE:
Each unit must be packed separately, also for consolidated container shipments.

8.7 How to load units onto a pallet
Palletized loads are preferred for heavy boxes, but for smaller items you should use
containers.
You can use any pallet size as long as the units are securely placed on the pallet and the
pallet can being moved by a pallet truck.

NOTICE:
The load must sit straight and be secured well to ensure stability. Securing with
stretch film binds the load and protects it against dirt and rain. The recommended
maximum height for a pallet shipment is 1.6 m (5.24 ft).
Stack items in a uniform way; heavier items on lower levels, light/small items on top. Do not
leave any units overhanging or misaligned.

9. Appendix A: Optical cable and SFP or QSFP cleaning
Basic optical cables, SFPs, and QSFPs cleaning methods and tools
Preparation
Optical cable ends and transceivers are susceptible to dirt during transportation, storage, or
handling. As a result, they can stop functioning correctly. Dirty optical cable ends or
transceivers have an impact on the service quality of Nokia products. That is why it is
important to maintain them properly. Nokia optical cable ends and transceivers are always
pre-cleaned and protected with dust caps to minimize any risks.
NOTICE:
You should always clean optical cables and transceivers prior to inserting and
reinserting, as you cannot confirm the cleanliness of a 125 µm diameter glass ferrule
after the visual inspection with the naked eye.
Tip:
Remove dust caps from the optical cable end and transceiver only prior to cleaning
and connecting.
Tip:
Make sure that the cable ends do not come into contact with anything else besides
cleaning equipment before they are connected. For more information, see Dry and
wet cleaning.

Fault detection
You can determine the condition of optical cables and transceivers (SFP, SFP+, or QSFP)
through visual inspection or by analyzing the cable loss. To complete fiber testing, check the
condition of the cable and transceiver and clean them properly. You can use the following
tools to inspect fibers and transceivers.

WARNING!
Risk of eye damage!
Do not look directly into a fiber-optic transceiver or into the ends of fiber-optic
cables. Fiber-optic transceivers and fiber-optic cables connected to transceivers
emit laser light that can damage your eyes.
Always cover open fibers or fiber sockets with protective caps.
Never look inside the fiber or the fiber sockets.
For inspection of fiber ends or fiber sockets always use a special camera. Never use
a magnifying glass for inspection.
The wavelength of the emitted light might be invisible to your eyes. Treat every
open fiber as an illuminated one, until you confirm it does not emit any light.
NOTICE:
Do not bend fiber-optic cables below their minimum bend radius that should not be
less than ten times the outer diameter (OD) of the fiber cable (example: 5 mm (0.2 in.)
diameter cable should never be bent beyond 50 mm (2 in.) bending radius). Bending
the cables below their minimum bend radius can damage the cables and cause
problems that are difficult to diagnose – it will increase optical insertion loss and
affect Nokia products service quality.
Note:
If a cable does not work at the first try, inspect the cable using a light source and a
power meter.

Compressed air is not a recommended method for the first try. Use it only when other
methods fail and always use product suitable for the purpose to ensure air supply
cleanliness.
Note:
Use dry cleaning methods for regular cleaning of the cables. Use wet cleaning
methods if multiple dry cleaning attempts failed to clear the issue.
NOTICE:
After using any wet cleaning equipment, immediately clean again ferrule ends with dry
cleaning equipment.
Note:
Cleaning tools can vary between the manufacturers. Always refer to the specific tool
manual.
When fibers, connectors, or transceivers fail the inspection, they should be cleaned in
sequence shown in Figure: Optical cable cleaning diagram or Figure: SFP or QSFP cleaning
diagram. Inspect the connector again, and make the connection when the plug passes
inspection.
