PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG MAYNILA COLLEGE OF LAW ONLINE CLASS AND LEARNING GUIDELINES In implementing these guidelines, compassion and leniency shall be upheld as much as possible without however, sacrificing academic excellence. ● Conduct of Online Classes - In accordance with Section 3 of LEBMC No. 67, s. 2020, reasonable parameters shall be implemented during the conduct of all academic activities by professors. In the conduct of academic activities, it is strongly recommended that classes follow a 50-50 proportion where 50% of the classes shall be synchronously delivered and 50% held through asynchronous learning, depending on the circumstances of each subject/class. ● Synchronous Learning - a type of instructional delivery where the instructor and the students interact in real time usually through a virtual platform enabled by communication technology. ● Asynchronous Learning – a type of instructional delivery where the instructor and the students do not interact in real time. This may include self-guided learning modules, recorded video and audio content, posted lecture notes, online discussion boards, and similar methods. These asynchronous learning materials may be accessed by the students according to their own pace. ▪ Completion of Asynchronous activities shall be submitted at least seven (7) days from the day given by the professor. Any late submission may be accepted at the discretion of the professor provided that the student provides a valid reason. ● Conduct of classes during the implementation of community quarantine - In light of community quarantine restrictions that greatly affect the movement of both students and professors and taking into consideration the circumstances of our students and faculty, bearing in mind that the health, safety, and welfare of all stakeholders are the priority of the College, the following shall be observed in the conduct of classes: ● Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) – Asynchronous Learning shall be held without prejudice to the election of Synchronous Learning by the concerned professor; subject however to prior coordination with the College. All faculty members shall be available for consultation during the time designated for their classes or designated consulting hours. ● Breaktime/Screen-time Break- Breaks shall be allowed for classes that extend for more than an hour. The breaktime/screen-time break shall not result to an extension of the class hours per meeting. The professor may reasonably allocate or divide the number of minutes for each breaktime/screen-time break. Unless a longer period is agreed upon between the professor and the students, a maximum break of 20minutes shall be allowed for 3 to 4 hour classes. ● Overtime- No overtime shall be allowed in classes beyond 10:00pm and as much as possible, professors shall dismiss their class on time. ● Make-up Class - Professors may schedule make-up classes to compensate for missed or canceled classes, subject to the approval of the College and as to such additional conditions that may be imposed. Professors are encouraged to consider the students’ work, family, and other obligations in scheduling make up classes. If a student cannot attend a make-up class due to valid reasons, the same shall not be taken against the student. The professor may also provide handouts/notes to the students who missed such make-up class. The maximum duration of any make-up class should not exceed 3 hours, but may be extended with approval from the College. class: ● Absences and Connectivity Issues -the following may be excused from ● Those who are suffering from health conditions; provided, that any of the following shall be presented: ● Medical Certificate ● Laboratory results ● Medical History ● Other certifications or documents with the similar import. ● For COVID19-positive students, their test results shall be submitted to the College of Law for verification. The College Administration shall issue an advisory addressed to the concerned professor/s. ● A student who tested positive for COVID-19 shall be allowed to have absences until full recovery without fear of being dropped unofficially. For purposes of these guidelines, the attendance/tardiness policy system of the College shall not apply. ● Those who reside in the same household with a COVID19+ person; provided, that supporting documents shall be presented; and subject further to the discretion of the College. ● Frontliners, those who are considered essential workers, and others who are similarly situated provided that the student concerned can show proof of rendition of service/duty. ● Students who get disconnected due to Internet connection problems, computer malfunction, or power interruption during classes or examinations must inform the professor of such problem and must explain in detail the problems experienced. ● If the student gets disconnected during an examination, he/she shall may be allowed to reconnect and continue to take his/her examination; provided, that the duration of time that the student reconnects does not exceed the reasonable time as may be provided by the professor or the proctor. ● Other justifiable and analogous circumstances. ● Excuse from any absence for any reason whatsoever does not absolve the student from compliance with any subject requirement. ● Conduct of Examinations - Professors are advised to take into consideration the prevailing circumstances in selecting the mode and conduct of examinations. Likewise, students are advised to promptly inform their professors of possible impediments that may affect the administration of examinations. In preparation for the Bar examinations, the fourth year students as much as possible be given typewritten examinations. ● Special/Make-up exams may be provided by the professors to excused students who missed examinations or quizzes. The professors shall have the discretion on the type of special exam to be given. ● Completion of written/computerized examinations shall be submitted within a reasonable time taking into consideration internet connectivity and other similar circumstances. ● In the event that the professor or proctor failed to receive the answers of the student on the prescribed time or failed to receive the complete examination file, the student should be given an opportunity to prove compliance. If the student is able to prove compliance, the student can resubmit his/her examination answers without however any alterations or modifications on the answers. ● Completion of Requirements - In the event that the student will not be able to complete/submit his/her deliverables on time before the end of the semester, or failed to comply at the end of the semester due to a medical condition, the professor may give special considerations for the student to catch-up or complete his/her deliverables. ● Monitoring of Compliance – These guidelines shall be monitored and evaluated regularly by the Online Education Committee of the College ● Nothing in these guidelines shall be construed to delimit the authority of the College Dean to impose additional guidelines and/or modify this Document, and of the enforceability of related policies and guidelines issued by the College of Law and/or by the University.
