The Obstacle That I Managed to Overcome A very good morning to the honorable judges, teachers and my fellow friends. My name is Darren and today I would like to share with you about “ The Obstacle That I Managed to Overcome” Glossophobia. It’s the phobia of public speaking that affect 75% of the worlds population. Last time, I too was a part of the 75 percent. If you do have a fear of public speaking, perhaps my speech could give you some tips to improve. During my time in year 1 in this school, I would be terrified of going on stage and speaking in front of large audiences. I would be so petrified that I couldn’t even talk normally. I would be the most soft speaking and quiet person you’ll ever meet. It took some time for me to get over my stage fright. Of Course it wasn’t something that would happen overnight. First, my mom started pushing me for more opportunities so that I could speak to other people. One of them was she challenged me to join my first online public speaking competition during the pandemic at 2020. Secondly, I started to learn tips of public speaking from the You tube and practise them at home. Thirdly, whenever there’s online competition such as public speaking, singing or drama during the 2 years pandemic I first volunteered myself to join. With a great support from my parent, Now I could finally talk in a volume that everyone could hear. I wasn’t scared of feedback anymore either. I knew and understood that feedback is there for you to improve. Not for you to be discouraged to get better. Now, because I have actually overcome my fear of public speaking I have even started being more comfortable giving presentations in my class, making new friends and so much more. If you forgot everything about my speech, I just want you to remember one thing. If you have a fear or an obstacle to overcome, if you work hard, you will always reach your goals. Thank you.
