As a volleyball player, who wanted to go to nationals and be recognized by colleges. It made me think to myself if I really did have the potential because of losing many games. As I lost one of the most important games to me because I didn’t score the last point, it made me realize that I needed to try harder, I needed to be more determined, more focused. Within giving myself the motivation, I had tried not to lose after the game it showed me that this is a sport that I still love and would keep doing if I wasn’t afraid of being the last point and losing the match again. Months after the losing game, I tried to forget about it and practiced as much as I could because I wanted scouts to see me, to maybe see “Wow she isn’t so bad. I would consider recruiting her.” From having this determination of scouts being able to see me play I was excited to practice every day. As the weeks went by practicing for another tournament with my teammates; finally, the day came, and I was back on the court, focused and ready to win. In that moment, stepping into the court, it didn’t matter to me that people were staring or how many matches I have lost. I was here staring across the net, looking at my opponents, knowing I just wanted to play and score points to go on to the next match. From start to finish, I did not win one game with my team. This caused to me realize that you can’t always win everything, and that life gives you different pathways even though you might not accept at first. It lets you try out new things even if you don’t succeed in them. Although it might be harsh to face the realization of something that you love, there is always a way to get back into it even if you might not win. Knowing that I can still practice volleyball in other ways, has given me comfort with the pain I have dealt with from losing matches. Regardless, of not achieving any videos or scholarships for the sport that I love. I can still try out for a university that can give me the opportunity of showing the skills that I still endure and accept me in their team. As well, joining communities that have sessions to play the sport and have fun with others. In the end, having the opportunity to play with regional teams, learn new skills, have fun, know how it is to lose something and get back up on my feet. This sport has helped me to keep accomplishing my dreams because of the number of opportunities the world gives us. I now know that I should use every chance given to me to my advantage and to never give up.
