one easy way to remember is by using a formula. general formula = ax^2 + bx + c
for completing the square we can alter this formula to get a(x+m)+n
to find m - find b and a
m = b/2a
ex. if b is 8 and a is 1, m = 8/2(1) = 4
to find n - find b, and c
n = c-(b^2/4a)
ex. if b is 8 and a is 1 and c is 3, n = 3-(8^2/4(1))
