How to Set a Strengths-Based Goal
Consider a new goal you want to set or one you’re currently working toward. Use the
following three steps to help you take that goal from simple and hopeful to detailed and
actionable.
Initial goal:
Fitness / Improve Physical Appearance
1. Is this goal action-oriented or outcome-oriented? Identify as either or both.
Both
1. Is your goal S.M.A.R.T.? Add details to help you succeed.
Specifc:
Yes very specific. Involves one single thing comprised of multiple different challanges.
Measurable:
Yes. Extremely measurable. Document your progress along the way and work on time
management while doing so to not overwork yourself.
Achievable:
100% Achievable. With enough ambition and motivation, anyone can achieve this.
Realistic:
Yes. Living proof such as body builders and personal trainers are evidence that anyone can
succeed. This is an extremely realistic.
Time-bound:
Not really. You can work out anywhere at any time. Work, school, home. Pushups, situps,
anything!

1. List your top five strengths and then describe how you’ll use each one to achieve your goal.
•
Motivation: A key factor in this is motivation, you have to be motivated if you want to succeed in this area. I have
plenty of natural and inspirational motivation in my family.

Ambition: Ambition runs deep in my family. Once we set our minds to something we always do it 100% of the
time.
•
Dedication: I am fully dedicated and comitted to this goal. Nothing will stop me or get in my way.
•
Discipline : I have years of self-discipline engraved in my mind. Living in harsh conditions growing up I have learned
to be patient and passive.
•
Patience: Results won't be effective immediately. It's important to not get frustrated or upset when waiting for
results as they may come slow and gradually.
Now, add these details — along with your strengths commitments — to your original goal and rewrite it.
New goal: Achieve Prime Physique
