ECLARO ACADEMY The students at Eclaro Academy may have been particularly at risk of serious mental health issues given recent research on the emotional and physical effects of the pandemic among students and the fact that this region was one of the areas in the Philippines that was most severely affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. The purpose of this research was to identify the social, economic, demographic, and living conditions related to a poor mental state among students at the Eclaro Academy during the COVID-19 lockdown in the Philippines in order to assess the students self-perceived mental health and understand their needs in order to develop appropriate responses. For this study, the researchers will conduct interviews that directly speak to their respondents, allowing them to communicate openly and to investigate deeply to conduct accurate observations. They will also ask real-life questions to the selected senior high school students who are having mental health problems during their pandemic lives that affect their academic performances in face-to-face classes in order to gather data, lived experiences, and information. However, doing interviews would surely be time-consuming; therefore, researchers need to work out how to use their resources successfully. ECLARO ACADEMY CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE This chapter presents different literature and studies, Foreign and local which is relevant to this study. This literature and study gathered the researchers in different books, articles, and journals. RELATED LITERATURE FOREIGN According to Huang, Y (2020) conducted a cross-sectional survey to investigate the mental health impact of the COVID-19 outbreak in China. The study found that the outbreak was associated with higher levels of generalized anxiety disorder, depressive symptoms, and poor sleep quality. These findings suggest that the pandemic has had a negative impact on mental health and highlight the need for interventions to address these ECLARO ACADEMY issues. The study emphasizes the importance of promoting mental health during times of crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, a study conducted by Elmer, T., et al.(2020) aimed to investigate the changes in the social networks and mental health of students in Switzerland before and during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. The researchers collected data from 1,193 participants using an online survey that included questions about their social networks, mental health, and socio-demographic information. The study found that the participants' social networks changed significantly during the pandemic, with fewer social interactions and a decrease in the size of their networks. Furthermore, the participants reported an increase in psychological distress and a decrease in life satisfaction during the lockdown period. The study highlights the importance of maintaining social connections and supporting the mental health of students during the pandemic. On the other hands Naff, D. et al., {2020) state that the pandemic has a negative impact on students living in poverty, this pandemic has shown psychological symptoms related to anxiety, stress and depression. Mental illness can affect students concentration, and social interactions for students to succeed in education. Indicated findings highlight the factors to students distress during pandemic. There are so much to be learned regarding to the psychological impacts that students facing and what can be done to lessen the negative effects. ECLARO ACADEMY According to Claudia E. (2022), The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected education, and now there is a need to focus on the shift back to in-person learning. This study aimed to find out what students liked about online education during the pandemic, such as how they learn, how teachers teach, how they are assessed, and how they interact with peers and teachers. The goal was to improve in-person education by adjusting it to meet students' preferences. The researchers surveyed students from Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania, and asked them to choose their preferred form of education and the one they thought would benefit their career development the most. The results showed that students liked having teachers support them with electronic resources, using online platforms for accessing materials and taking tests, having easier and more personalized communication with teachers, and collaborating with peers on projects. These findings suggest practical ideas for balancing in-person and online education, possibly through blended learning. Education leaders should consider these suggestions to create a sustainable future for education. LOCAL According to L.T Lim, et al. (2022), the COVID-19 pandemic, or coronavirus disease, declared by the World Health Organization (WHO), has affected many countries, including the Philippines. With everyday life stalled in the Philippines, the protocols of the quarantine Lockdown have shifted the traditional college classes to online classes for the students. The transition from traditional classes to online classes may have psychological effects on the students because of the continued isolation and lack of interaction with ECLARO ACADEMY professors and fellow students. This related study from the College of Medicine, University of the Philippines Manila, determined to assess the students’ mental health status and appraise the effect of coronavirus disease, the changes from traditional to online classes, and the impact of social media on mental health. Moreover, the mental health stressors that modified the mental health status of the students during the COVID-19 pandemic, quarantine protocols, and transition of traditional learning to online learning or classes. According to Barrot, J.,et al. (2021) the foundation of the educational system has recently been rocked by an extraordinary health crisis. It is crucial to develop a detailed picture of students' online learning experiences during the COVID-19 epidemic given the uncertainty of today. Although this topic has been the subject of numerous research, little is known about the difficulties students face and the particular methods they use to overcome them. So, this research aims to fill the gap. The results of a mixed-methods approach showed that the type and severity of online learning problems faced by college students differed. Their home learning setting presented the biggest problem, whereas technical literacy and competency posed the least amount of difficulty. The results also showed that the COVID-19 pandemic had the biggest effect. As stated by D. Naff, S. Williams et al. (2022) Even though study on this subject is yet in its infancy, the effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on PK– 12 youth's mental health are likely an immediate and ongoing worry. The researchers conducted a Comprehensive evaluation of empirical studies investigating the effects of ECLARO ACADEMY COVID-19 on Mental health in order to synthesize existing knowledge. Five themes emerged from the 104 studies that were included: (a) the pandemic proved to be highly disruptive to children and youth in grades PK–12; (b) there was a clear connection between caregivers' mental health and that of their children (such as parents); (c) the pandemic generally increased levels of stress, anxiety, and depression in children and youth in grades PK–12; (d) students were particularly affected based on their age, gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status. On the other hands K. Dela Peña (2022) Stated that The opening of classes which was "courageously made despite the challenges and fears brought by the COVID-19 pandemic," was emphasized as a "victory for basic education" by Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte. RELATED STUDIES FOREIGN According to Baumann, C.et al. (2021). the significant levels of stress, worry, and sadness among students have been found to have a negative impact on their mental health. One in five college students globally had one or more diagnosable mental problems prior to the epidemic. The foundation of good health practices that support wellbeing into adulthood is thought to be best built during the academic years. Young adults go through a variety of life issues and are exposed to big dangers that can damage their health at this time. The roots of psychological issues including stress, depression, and anxiety include moving, taking on more responsibility, peer pressure, learning, and work schedules. These same students are more ECLARO ACADEMY vulnerable in a crisis because of years of budget cuts and the inability to provide for their basic needs, and recent research indicates that students from lower sociodemographic origins are more impacted. Similarly with Elharake, J., et al.{2023) Children, adolescents, and college students who are affected by COVID-19 must adjust to a virtual learning environment and long periods of physical isolation from their friends, teachers, and extended family. Children and college students may lack the necessary academic resources, social support, and learninghome environments as a result of this sudden and forced transition. This could result in higher levels of loneliness, distress, rage, and boredom, which could have a negative impact on psychological outcomes. The sickness itself may also cause mental health problems, such as regret over lost possibilities in life and employment. health at this time. The roots of psychological issues including stress, depression, and anxiety include moving, taking on more responsibility, peer pressure, learning, and work schedules. These same students are more vulnerable in a crisis because of years of budget cuts and the inability to provide for their basic needs, and recent research indicates that students from lower sociodemographic origins are more impacted. On the other hands Elmer, T., et al. states that Students' lives have radically changed as a result of the suspension of classroom instruction at numerous colleges and the transition to online instruction. Social isolation among students may gradually increase as a result of social ECLARO ACADEMY distancing practices, which may successfully stop the spread of the infection and lessen the burden on the public health systems. Students are more likely to experience mental health issues due to the intense pressure they are under to excel academically. It has been suggested that students' social networks play a significant role in reducing stress and enhancing their productivity. Students' mental health may be significantly impacted by decreased social interactions, a lack of social support, and newly emerging pressures related to the COVID-19 problem. According to Wildemeersch, D., et al. (2022), when face-to-face education returned in 2022, research was conducted to gauge students feelings and opinions on this issue in order to better implement safety measures and to provide an outlook on how university life might look in the future, both from a learning and teaching perspective. And in terms of online classes following the epidemic, students appear to have mixed feelings about them. According to Paudel, the interviewed students expressed a readiness to pursue online courses in the future. Horváth et al. provide a similar insight, presenting the case of their pupils, who believe online platforms are efficient and cannot picture their learning experience any other way. On the other hand, the matter that has raised concerns about the end of the pandemic is students' mental health (anxiety, despair, panic, rage, and rebellion) as a result of the stay-at- ECLARO ACADEMY home orders and the chaos caused by the pandemic. As a result, returning to face-to-face schooling could be one of the alternatives for students to acquire social skills. LOCAL According to E. Baloran (2020), the World's biggest problem is the COVID-19 Pandemic that weren't just affected the human livelihood but also the Higher Education Institutions that the students who are experiencing Anxiety had an extreme reaction. To investigate the knowledge, attitudes, anxieties, and coping mechanisms of students, He used cross-sectional study to gather data's. Based on the results he have gathered, student's consumed enough knowledge but a high-risk perceptions. The government's action to the globals concern made the students satisfied. However, some students were observe having hesitation on Online Learning. Student's find many ways to help them in coping up with their mental health issues, the reason why mental health problems of student's should be address in the middle of Pandemic. As stated by D. L Gildo (2023), the Grade 12 Senior High School Students' most successful way of surviving with mental health issues are the Meditation for them to relax, heal, and clear their thoughts. However, least of Grade 12 Student's coping mechanism is engaging with positive thoughts. Conclude that there are many factors that affecting the ECLARO ACADEMY Student's mental health including the difficult situations they're in, pressured with studies because of being on Blended Learning, their mental well-being, and the physical heal the risks of Covid-19 Pandemic. According to R. U. Acob, A. Hidayat, and Y. S. Dewi (2021), Covid-19 Pandemic were examine that it is a World Health Crisis not just affecting the physical health of people but also the mental health of individuals specially the students. Based on the data they've gathered, 1.5% of students have depression, 3.4% have anxiety, and 1.4% are stress in the middle of Pandemic. This conducted both from public and private schools. Thus, it is need to have a mental health programs to help individuals and students in coping up the mental health issues. A study by Bordeos, M., et al 2022, Lack of instructional time, collaboration, difficulty of understanding lesson and activities, and adjustment period of time are the influence of COVID-19 pandemic to the students who took part in limited face-to-face classes. In order to develop student’s full potential, it is necessary to consider time. On the other hand, students who experience less stress at school are more likely to be self motivated who are using self strategies to provide themselves more learning flexibility. Therefore, the department of education should review and develop guidelines that teacher-centered methods collaborative learning will continue in the classroom despite of the covid 19 pandemic. CHAPTER III like ECLARO ACADEMY RESEARCH METHODOLOGY This chapter includes the design of the research to be used in this study, defines the subject of the study, the respondents, the data gathering procedure, intruments to be used and the statistical tools to be used in analyzing data. RESEARCH METHOD USED The Researchers used Quantitave Research. This approach explores the everyday experiences of individuals while disregarding any preconceived notions the researcher may have about the phenomenon. It delves into lived experiences to gain a deeper understanding of how individuals interpret and comprehend those experiences. This methodology is frequently used to investigate lived experiences, broaden the researcher's understanding of human thought processes, and expand their knowledge of a specific phenomenon. DISCRIPTIVE RESEACH DESIGN A quantitative approach was selected by the researchers because the study focused on the collection and analysis of numerical data on the topic. Quantitative research is the gathering of data so that information can be quantified and statistically treated in order to support or deny "alternate knowledge claims" (Creswell, 2003, p. 153). ECLARO ACADEMY A survey will be conducted to gather data from selected Eclaro Academy students. The questionnaire will contain questions about the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the contemporary situation of face-to-face classes. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. Descriptive statistics are used to organize data by describing how variables in a sample or population are related. In order to assess data on the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the contemporary situation of face-to-face classes, descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation will be utilized (Kaur et al., 2018). The information acquired by respondents will be necessary for determining whether or not this study effectively validates what students may say. Furthermore, as previously published, a four-level Likert scale survey was utilized to collect information about students' perceptions of the topic along with their experiences with the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the contemporary situation of face-to-face classes. The Likert scale, according to Britannica, is a rating system used in questionnaires to evaluate the opinions, points of view, or perceptions. Respondents select one of four possible responses to a specific topic or statement: "agree," "strongly agree," "disagree," and "strongly disagree." ECLARO ACADEMY RESEARCH RESPONDENTS RESPONDENTS TARGET NUMBER OF PERCENTAGE RESPONDENTS Senior High School Students Total 100 100% 100% The respondents of this study are the 100 selected students from different strand at Eclaro Academy who may have encounter issue in their mental health problem. The respondents must answer the questionnaire that the researchers provide from them which provides the information that the researchers required. The following criteria must be met (1) Enrolled at Eclaro Academy (2) Must be Senior High School Students (3) Attend online class. RESEARCH LOCALE The study will be conducted at Eclaro Academy along Quezon City Commonwelth to the right before St. Peter Church, Ever Gotesco Mall at 3rd floor beside the LTO Office. RESEARCH INSTRUMENT To gather relevant and essential data, the researchers will conduct a face-to-face interview. An interview that's conducted face-to-face with the interview questionnaire of the ECLARO ACADEMY researchers with the research respondents. With related questions to know their opinions and feelings about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on their mental health. DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE The survey questionnaires created by the researchers will be reviewed by an expert in their study, Once validated, the researchers will request permission from the DEAN Erlinda Dejarme to conduct online surveys, Once the DEAN has given approval, The researchers will create a letter for the purpose of gathering information from the respondents. STATICTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA ECLARO ACADEMY To clarify the data accurately and effectively, the researchers used the following statistical treatment; Frequency and Percentage, Weighted Mean, and Likert Sun S, Goldberg SB, Lin D, Qiao S, Operario D.
