Summer Program in Science for High School Students 1. BATS (Bay Area Teen Science) http://bayareateenscience.org/ A portal to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) opportunities for all San Francisco Bay Area teens. Information on variety of programs including: Girls Who Code, NASA STEM Enhancement in Earth and Space Science, TASC program: Teen Advocates in Science Communication (Cal Academy), Emerging Innovators Program, talks, workshops, and dozens of programs described. 2. Johns Hopkins University JHU CTY: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/som/Opportunities-High-School-Undergraduate-Postbac-Students/ A large national online database of programs in science for high school students in a variety of fields: Astronomy, Physics, Biomedical Science, Engineering, Biology and Environmental Science - in California and across the country. 3. UCSF AI4ALL https://ai4all.ucsf.edu/ The program targets current 9th-12th graders from racial/ethnic groups dramatically underrepresented in AI: Black, Hispanic/Latinx, and Native American. Applications from young women are particularly encouraged. Summer 2022 program applications will be available in mid-February 2022. 4. UCSF Department of Neurological Surgery – ENVISION Internship Program https://www.oasisforgirls.org/envision Oasis for Girls: Partners with young women of color aged 14-18 from under-resourced communities in San Francisco to provide a medical internship experience. Spring 2022 applications will be open in February. 5. CHORI (Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute) Summer Student Research Program https://summerstudents.ucsf.edu CHORl 's Summer Research Program is committed to increasing diversity in research - offering internships for high school students in their junior or senior year and undergraduates. High school students must have completed at least 1 year in math and biology. All admitted, eligible students will receive a stipend. Summer stipends range from $3000– $4000, varying by student status and granting agency. Deadline for high school applicants: Friday, February 25, 2022. 6. Arthritis Foundation Summer Science Internship Program https://ugr.ue.ucsc.edu/Arthritis This 8-week internship gives students the opportunity to work alongside cutting-edge arthritis researchers and is open to high school juniors and seniors; research or clinical laboratory placements in rheumatology, immunology, arthritis and related autoimmune diseases, at UCSF or Stanford University. Stanford Medical Youth Science Program (SMYSP) https://smysp.spcs.stanford.edu/ 5-week residential science and medicine-based enrichment program; open to low-income and/or underrepresented minority high school sophomores and juniors. UC Davis REMOTE Young Scholars Program for High School Students http://ysp.ucdavis.edu/ The UC Davis Young Scholars Program is a summer residential research program designed to expose approximately 40 high achieving high school students to the world of original research within the fields of the biological, agricultural, environmental and natural sciences. Applicants must be 16 years of age by the first day of the program (July 19, 2022) but not 18 years of age at the end of the program, (before July 30, 2022). 9. Exploratorium Explainer Program https://explainers.exploratorium.edu/highschool/ High School Explainers, the Exp1oratorium's youngest employees (ages 15-20), are a diverse group of students who engage visitors at exhibits, lead demonstrations, guide and inform visitors to the museum, and run many museum operations. By sharing with the visiting public, Explainers enhance visitors' experience and gain an understanding of informal methods of science learning. Explainers are paid San Francisco's Minimum wage.
