1 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION On-the-job training or OJT training is a construction of the student for the real job that they will be applying one day. Trainees can gain new knowledge and experience on how to work in a real institution or company with the help of the employer by receiving effective training. Trainees are generally allowed to apply what they have learned in school in the real world. OJT is a hire-first program. Student trainees must complete the number of hours specified in the curriculum during the training period. Trainees are expected to learn the realities of working, gain more knowledge about their course, develop skills that they can use for the rest of their lives, strengthen their values and work attitude, be mature in dealing with various situations, and, most importantly, be prepared to face what lies ahead after completing the training. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic which is detrimental to our health and safety, we were unable to have our training outside the vicinity of the campus, but we are not discouraged because we know that our success is still in our hands and that we will work hard to change our lives. We are grateful for the opportunity to work 2 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies as trainees at Central Philippines State University - Victorias Campus because the experience and knowledge we will gain will allow us to grow and be the best versions of ourselves. Objectives On-the-job training or internship aims to expose the trainees/interns to different workstations for them to experience and observe the practical application of the theories learned in school, to enhance their skills, work, values, and professionalism. Moreover, trainees/interns should be able to: 1. Broaden their knowledge and skills in information technology; 2. Identify key positions in the industry and related operations to their corresponding task and responsibilities; 3. Define the standard operational procedure in each of the departments assigned; 4. Identify and operate the equipment, and facilities in each of the departments assigned; 5. Perform the required skills and techniques necessary in the execution of operational procedures of the assigned task in accordance with the existing workplace, health and safety standards; 6. Analyze and evaluate operational procedure in each assigned task and recommend any appropriate course of action to be taken to improve procedures; and 3 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 7. Acquire actual and relevant competencies in: a) Basic Networking; b) PC Repair and troubleshooting; c) Multimedia Development; d) Programming; e) Office System Management; and f) Other Related Activities. 4 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies CHAPTER II BACKGROUND OF THE AGENCY (Central Philippines State University-Victorias Campus) Sprawling in a 4,653.7- hectare land reservation, 19 kilometers from Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, and 17 kilometers from the town of Mabinay, Negros Oriental, the Central Philippines State University (CPSU) is dubbed as the first agricultural Institution in the country. It was established by a Filipino superintendent in the name of Professor Jose F. Crisanto immediately after World War II. CPSU is located in the heart of Negros Island, 108 kilometers from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, and 97 kilometers from Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental in the southeast. The colorful history of CPSU started when House bill No. 396 was introduced Congressman by Hon. Congressmen Limsiaco, Medina, Carlos Hilado Formilleza, and Nietes, co-authored and Arnaldo by to establish one agricultural school in Negros Occidental of the Central Luzon Agricultural School type. One of the immediate missions of the school was to hasten the economic development of the country which was in the process of reconstruction by training the youth in scientific agriculture. House Bill No. 396 had ripened into Republic Act No. 43 5 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies officially created the Negros Occidental Agricultural School (NONAS) on October 2, 1946. It became operational on August 1 of the following year. Had an Act No. 74 of the US Phil. Commission of 1901 has been implemented as planned and approved, NONAS should have been the first three schools in the Philippines during the American regime namely: Philippine Normal School of Arts and Traders in Luzon and the agricultural school in Negros Island. The first two schools were not in the Philippines respectively, while the agricultural school supposed to have been established on the island of Negros was not realized due to unknown reasons. The school was converted to NEGROS OCCIDENTAL AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE by virtue of Presidential Authority on September 6, 1977, NONAS has served the pioneering students for 31 years from 1946 – 1977 while NOAC steadfastly, turned out both college and high school graduates for 24 years prior to its conversion to NSCA. NOAC then was converted into a state college known as the Negros State College of Agriculture (NSCA) by virtue of R.A. 9141 dated July 3, 2001. Hon. Congressman Genaro “Lim-ao” Alvarez, Jr. of the 6th District of Negros Occidental sponsored House Bill No. 9873 which was co-authored by Hon. Congressman Cojuangco, Montemayor, Montilla, Teodoro, and Villar, and Congresswoman Marcos and Villanueva in the House of Representatives. In the Senate Hon. Senator Juan Ponce Enrile was the 6 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies first to file Senate Bill No. 1920 which was followed by Hon. Senator Loren Legarda-Liveste also filed Senate Bill No. 1927 all taking into consideration House Bill No. 9873. Finally, Hon. Senators Tessie AquinoOreta and John H. Osmeña filed Senate Bill No. 2263 in substitution of the Senate earlier introduced by Senators Enrile and Legarda-Leviste. The co-sponsors of the Senate Bill No. 2263 were Senators Biazon, Flavier, Jaworski, Magsaysay, Ople, Pimentel, Revilla, Roco, Sotto, and Tatad. Its conversion was meant to maintain, strengthen and expand the originally lifted expertise of NOAC by creating five Extension campuses. Four (4) of these had already been opened in the City of Sipalay and the Municipalities of Cauayan, Ilog, and Candoni for six years. The proposed campus of Hinoba-an is waiting for its opening by the beginning of the next school year when funds become available. Today, CPSU main campus is traversed by an all-weather national highway and is accessible to regular buses and jeepneys plying Bacolod via Kabankalan City on the occidental side and Dumaguete City via the Municipality of Mabinay on the oriental side. It can also be reached from various points in Negros either by air through Bacolod City to Dumaguete City airports or by sea through regular fast crafts and ships at any point in the Visayas. NSCA has been attracting students not only from the different towns in Negros but also from the neighboring island provinces in the Western Visayas Region. Its agricultural programs 7 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies constantly draw clients who wish to acquire appropriate technology and skills for productive, decent, and gainful living. Orientation Despite COVID-19, the trainee is still willing to learn for the sake of her parents. She is one of the IT students that applied to study at Central Philippine State University because she wanted to advance her knowledge and abilities in the field of information technology, which is one step closer to her life goals. The day before the training, she attended an orientation on the rules and regulations of the institution for her to get acquainted with. Office assignment for the training was also tackled. She was also oriented on the possible tasks she will be dealing with every day, the person in-charged for the whole training period, and also the work ethics that she should observe at the different school offices. 16 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies Insert your orig WPR here with signature 17 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 18 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 19 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 20 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 21 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 22 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 23 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 24 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 25 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 26 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 27 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 28 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 29 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies 30 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies CHAPTER IV EVALUATION OF THE TRAINING EXPERIENCES This chapter discusses the significance and impact of an onthe-job (OJT) training program on me as a trainee. This includes the significant accomplishments I gained and contributed to CPSUVictorias during the course of my training, the aspects of OJT that most interest me, the areas in which I believe I need the most improvement, the aspects of OJT that I find the most difficult and how I overcame such difficulty, and my evaluation of whether CPSU-Victorias is qualified to be one of our university linkages. Insights Gained As a trainee, I was able to improve my skills, particularly in office system management, through on-the-job training. She also gained real-world work experience. For me, OJT allows me to experience the actual methodologies of a specific job, allowing me to gain relevant knowledge and skills for my profession. As an information technology student, I practiced organization, time management, and skill enhancement, and handled field and office work. Through the various activities I handled every day, I was 31 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies also taught to be flexible, and cooperative, and develop good values that will help me achieve my life goals. Also, I learned that documents and files must be kept organized; this is a management role. People profit from it because it makes their work simpler. Organizing helps prevent misunderstanding, delays, duplication of effort, and overlap of roles for every employee or trainee in the organization. When there is better control over the papers and knowledge of their whereabouts, it will be quicker and simpler for the employee to locate them when needed. There was more paperwork in the office where I was assigned. Learning how to photocopy and scan documents is one of the things I could use in the future that is related to my course. And sometimes in doing these, I encountered some problems, like the photocopying machine not working well; where I learned how to fix the problems. I had the opportunity to learn about crimping and networking at the HR office with Mr. Singo's assistance. Also, anyone who is ready to learn can benefit from learning from wise and experienced people. Even though we were only helping, we nonetheless picked up some instructional techniques that we may 32 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies apply later. We should consider teaching and learning as multifaceted processes because they are. One of the best aspects of the literature on teaching and learning is how diverse it is. Anyone can teach, but no one can teach like a professional; by learning from them and gaining new knowledge and experiences, we may grow into our best selves. I learned how to create an event program, but I did not imagine that having a limited period of time I could make it. Because cleanliness is next to godliness, maintaining a tidy office is crucial in the workplace. It may have an impact on employee performance, output, and health. In order to maintain strong staff morale and production levels, it is crucial to keep the workplace clean. It promotes the efficiency, health, and safety of employees. Nobody feels motivated in an unclean environment. On-the-job training was extremely beneficial to me in improving my skills, which I believe are essential for future employment. It enables me to gain a better understanding of myself, my strengths, and my weaknesses. The training encourages me to not only grow as a person but also to gain a better understanding of myself. Knowing oneself entails understanding one's own objectives and how to achieve them to the best of one's ability. On-the-job 33 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies training has allowed me to delve into the world of office organization. Reality does not always match expectations; however, through training, I was shaped to be more determined and competitive in everything I do in pursuit of a better future. During my communication OJT, skill. one of Working the in things a I developed professional was setting is my c challenging one where I have to acquaint myself to communicate professionally with the people in the workplace, particularly my superior. The aspect of my OJT that piqued my interest the most was the daily callouts. Every day, I encountered people from all walks of life with unique attitudes. I increased my patience and willingness to be more productive in this regard, particularly with the various task assignments. My communication ability is something I'd like to improve. Nowadays, communication is an essential part of life, particularly at work. It has an impact on all aspects of our lives, not just our jobs. Good communication skills would enable me to gain the trust and confidence of others, make new friends, deal with difficult situations, and, most importantly, gain respect. 34 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies I noticed that the majority of the faculty and office aides at CPSU - Victorias are preoccupied with their assigned tasks. As a result, when I needed help, I had no one with whom I could consult and request assistance. This is the only aspect of my workplace that I dislike. As a trainee, however, I initiate to solve the problems I encountered. As a result, I must always be proactive. In my opinion, the Human Resource Office is qualified to be one of the training venues, particularly in office system management. 35 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies CHAPTER V CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS This chapter presents the conclusion and recommendations of the trainee for the improvement of the On-the-Job (OJT) Training program. Conclusion We were unable to apply for an actual workplace needed for training due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which was also harmful to our health. It was difficult for me to accept that I needed to be more outgoing because I am an introvert. My anxiousness increased prior to the OJT beginning because I believed I would be living cooperatively with everyone else. One of my communication unfamiliar people. We were shortcomings stationed on the is interacting CPSU-Victorias with Campus because of COVID-19 for the sake of our health. Knowing that the workplace I'll be working in is already acquainted and that all I have to deal with are the professional faculties and staff of CPSU-Victorias, my worry about dealing with people is starting to lessen now that I'm at this institution. As time goes on, I begin to feel at ease working at the office since I am able to speak with my superiors. The personnel and employees at CPSU-Victoria are incredibly personable, and because 36 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies of their guidance as we developed as better employees at an institution, we were able to work comfortably with them. Recommendations To improve the On-the-job training program, trainees must be sincere and focused on performing or accomplishing the assigned tasks. In other words, these tasks must be given attention if they are to be completed well and on time. It is essential in the workplace to have a positive attitude toward work, to be on time for work, to be responsible and kind, and to be committed and dedicated to one's work. As a result, the trainee advises future BSIT student trainees to complete their On-the-Job Training at an IT-related company/institution where employees will always assist them in any endeavor to enhance or enrich their skills, abilities, and knowledge, particularly in Information Technology. An organization that gives every trainee an equal opportunity to apply what they've learned in class and is willing to share their expertise without restrictions. CPSU, in terms of student training, is truly exceptional in office system management but not most IT works. 37 Republic of the Philippines CENTRAL PHILIPPINES STATE UNIVERSITY Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental College of Computer Studies BIBLIOGRAPHY ARSENIO, K. 2019.
