Project: WhatsApp Pay
Introduction of WhatsApp Pay
Overview
WhatsApp is a Facebook-owned service of messaging and Voice over IP (VoIP). It allows
users to send text, voice, and videos, share images, documents, and other media.
WhatsApp is available on mobile devices but also on desktop computers. WhatsApp now
has worldwide more than 2 billion users. In many countries across multiple continents,
including Latin America, the Indian subcontinent, and many other areas of Europe and
Africa, it has become the primary electronic communication device.
At a glance - Different Digital Payment System and Market Value Projection
People are now moving worldwide to digital payment services like Google Pay, PayPal and
others. The demand for mobile wallets is high. In 2019 the global mobile market value for
transactions was $3714.5 billion and is projected to rise to $12.407.5 billion by 2025.

(Current State)
WhatsApp Mission
As one of the leading mobile messaging applications, WhatsApp wants to achieve a part of
this growing digital payment industry. WhatsApp decided to immerse itself in this digital
payment market. They launched the new WhatsApp Payments in Brazil in June 2020. Their
product name is known as WhatsApp Pay. WhatsApp promises to disrupt the global
ecosystem for digital payments. They rely on WhatsApp's ubiquity and the sheer number of
WhatsApp users (2 billion) as an additional edge over other payment applications. Now in
Brazil, they have started, and subsequently, a launch in India and the rest of the world will
be followed.
Technological Workflow
WhatsApp includes the debit or credit card of the customer in your application. That is, you
can transfer money to them while chatting with your peers. To access this payment feature,
there is no independent application that customers need to download. Users should receive
this feature as an update in the current WhatsApp message app. By updating the WhatsApp
Messaging application, the user can use the WhatsApp pay feature.
Advantages of WhatsApp Pay:
•
•
•
•
Prepared by:
Easy peer-to-peer payments. You can send money to your family, friends, or
relatives all through WhatsApp.
Users need not go to the bank or use wallets, bank apps, or NEFT to transfer money.
It will be a one-click payment.
The easy and user-friendly interface of WhatsApp would make digital payments
seamless, and there will be no need to enter details at multiple page loads.

Strategical Business planning for WhatsApp Pay
Business Objective by senior management:
•
•
Have at least 1 million users use the
WhatsApp pay feature within the first
three months of launch.
Future State
Client has given them the following requirements:
To transfer money using WhatsApp pay,
there will be 2 methods on the WhatsApp app.
Over one year of its launch have 30% of the
user base using WhatsApp pay.
Method of Implementation
Method 1:
Method 2:
1. To use the WhatsApp Pay feature, the user
needs to have a bank account with its debit
card or a credit card
2. Users shall select the person they want to
send money to from their WhatsApp
contact list

6. Users will click on the transfer button
7. Money is transferred
8. The sender and the receiver will both
receive a payment notification on their
chat window once the fund transfer has
been made.
9. In cases where the user is requesting
money, tap on the request and wait for the
person to accept your request.
10. The feature should be available in multiple
languages
Prepared by:
1. The user goes on the main page of WhatsApp
and opens the payments option.
2. The user then taps on the QR code showing
next to their name to show their QR code
using which people can send them money.
3. User taps on the new payment option located
on the bottom right of the display.
4. User selects a contact or the scan QR code

Future adaptability and User-friendliness
Scalability Requirement:
Usability:
This feature initially would be launched in a single
country to test and get user feedback. Then
WhatsApp will be rolling it out across its big
markets like India, where it has 400 million users—
followed by the rest of the world.
The screens should be self-explanatory and very userfriendly.

Plan Stakeholder Engagement
Purpose
The purpose of Plan Stakeholder Engagement is to plan an approach for establishing and maintaining effective
working relationships with the stakeholders.
Description
Plan Stakeholder Engagement involves conducting a thorough stakeholder analysis to identify all of the involved
stakeholders and analyze their characteristics. The results of the analysis are then utilized to define the best
collaboration and communication approaches for the initiative and to appropriately plan for stakeholder risks.
When planning for stakeholder engagement, the degree of complexity can increase disproportionately as the
number of stakeholders involved in the business analysis activities increases. This is important because new or
different techniques for the management of stakeholders may be required when the engagement moves from
collaborating with a few stakeholders into dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of people.

Identify Risk in the New Feature
(Identify them using the Strategy Analysis Knowledge Area)
1. Considering the Wifi security, how secure it to set up WhatsApp payments
2. How secure the Bank Account and the WhatsApp Pay handshaking protocol while transferring money
from Bank Account to WhatsApp to complete WhatsApp transaction.
3. What to do if someone hasn't received the WhatsApp payment you sent?
4. Because WhatsApp is primarily known as a social networking application, users may be hesitant to use it
for payment.
5. Competitors may provide numerous more features that WhatsApp social networking application may not
be able to provide
6. People will uninstall this basic App if money transfers aren't convenient and seamless.
7. It may be tough to keep it up to date with current trends and future requirements in both the money
transfer and social media sectors, and failing to do so could result in consumer unhappiness.
8. WhatsApp Pay application details must not share all the bank details of a customer.

Strength

The most popular messaging App is
accessible on all platforms.
WhatsApp has a large number of users. It is
used by over a billion individuals all around
the world.
More funds from the Zuck: The App now
has the funds and support from Facebook
creator and CEO Mark Zuckerberg for all
administrative and legal support.
Always on the move: WhatsApp is still
popular since no severe incidents have
been reported.
Brand equity is substantial.

New targets, trends, and revenue streams
WhatsApp can expand into new regions,
especially as the internet becomes
available to previously inaccessible areas.
The market isn't overcrowded.
The App must be updated to reflect new
technical advancements.
With such a large user base, WhatsApp is in
an ideal position to develop additional
revenue streams.
Other payment methods, in addition to
debit and credit cards, may be used.
Continue expansion into new areas

A well-known but simple-to-copy app
WhatsApp is a software program. In
theory, all it takes is one fresh idea to
render the App obsolete.
Regulations governing the use of
technology, data, and privacy pose a
significant danger to this platform.
Australia, for example, has made it illegal
for its citizens to use encrypted software.
Technology is also vulnerable to security
flaws, malware, and viruses. Someone
could be writing code right now to gain
unauthorized access to the App.
