Discussion
서준 should be able to understand the plot, characters, and overall world-building of
the novel. This will be tested through short quizzes, brief guided discussions, and short
response questions.
(Most important section)
Will work towards being able to help 서준 understand new vocabulary. Since the book
is around the middle school level, there should be words that he is uncomfortable
with. Therefore will make a word bank and attempt to get him to bring words that he is
unfamiliar with.
Hunger Games is a short novel that tackles a lot of issues, such as classism and
dystopia. These will provide a good starting point for argumentative essays, which
서준 will write around 2-3. Additionally, since the novel is divided into three sections,
there will be a summary assigned for each chapter.
In English classes, being an active participant is a highly prioritized skill, therefore the
class will focus on 서준’s ability to make thoughtful remarks.
