Strong Start
Every lesson begins as soon as students walk through the
door!
3 Reasons:
• It sets the tone for everything that comes after.
• From a pacing perspective, a STRONG and ENERGETIC start to the
lesson builds momentum.
• It socializes students to work with discipline, urgency, and efficiency
as soon as they walk through the door.
The overarching goal is to equip students with he ACADEMIC tools they will
need to be successful!
SLANT
● The SCHOLAR SLANT is a new
PBIS initiative adopted from
Teach Like a Champion
● Students will learn a common
set of behaviors for inside the
classroom.
SLANT
No matter how great a lesson is, if students aren’t sitting up and
actively listening, it’s like pouring water into a leaky bucket!
• SLANT teaches students the behaviors & skills to concentrate,
focus, and learn.
• Teach nonverbal signals
• Tracking the speaker is one of the most important skills of SLANT
• Turn and talk about what SLANT looks like, or could look like, in your
classroom
Reflection Turn and Talk
• What is your biggest takeaway from today's learning?
• What is one thing you will do differently tomorrow
because of what you have learned?
• What will we see in your classroom because you have
attended this training?
