The teacher will REFER TO introduce the badminton APPENDIX (A) game generally according to the type, the equipment used, way of playing and the disciplines of the game. Badminton is one of the most popular sports played globally professionally by athletes all around the world including Malaysia. Major contributions of power for the game come from internal and external rotations of the upper and lower arm. Badminton also ORGANIZATION EPE20203 requires jumps, lunges and quick changes in direction, especially the high frequency of ‘stop-and-go’ maneuvers and rapid arm movement of postural positions. ANATOMY MOTOR LANGUAGE 3. There are several types of grips to hold a badminton racket including forehand, backhand, smash and net shot grip. For forehand grip, Take a racket and then place your hand on the face of the racket and slide down to the handle. Close three fingers and thumb leaving the forefinger separate. 4. The main muscles used in playing badminton are hip and upper-leg muscles such as gluteus REFER TO muscles, hamstring, APPENDIX (B) quadriceps and the shoulder girdle muscle like trapezius and rhomboid 5. There are several motor skills needed to play badminton which are the double cross, diagonal dissociation, double throwing overhead and catching. For double cross, it is important to move the feet in 2 ways (over-back and over-front) in the sections of the cross on the ground while focusing on control and speed. 6. The teacher will prepare a badminton racket DEMONSTRATION and a shuttlecock to be displayed to the students with three phrases, for example: 5|Page EPE20203 1.Ready Phase -Backswing the racket while bending the elbows -Forward with the racket head 2.Execution Phase REFER TO -Move the handles up and APPENDIX (A) forward. - Hit the shuttlecocks with the basic movement 3.Follow Phase -Continue to swing the racket. -Forward-moving movement After that, the teacher also demonstrate the basic techniques of playing badminton: Service There are four types of serves which are low serve, high serve, flick serve and drive serve. The low serve is a serve that will barely skims over the top of the net and will land near the short service line. The high serve is a serve that travels high and deep into the receiver’s back court. The flick serve is a fast and offensive serve that travels in an upwards direction towards the far service line. The drive serve or also known as flat serve is a fast and flat offensive serve that is meant to travel to the mid-to-far end of the service receiving area. Strokes Can be played forehand or backhand. Forehand strokes 6|Page EPE20203 are strokes which are hit with the front (palm) of the hand leading. The backhand strokes are strokes which are hit with the back (knuckles) of the hand leading. 7. Teacher will jog around the court followed by students for 1 minute. WARMING UP 8. Teacher will demonstrate and instruct the students to do star-jumps while counting down starting from 40. 9. Teacher will demonstrate the arm circle and wrist circle while students will follow for 30 seconds respectively: 7|Page Arm circle: Stand straight, both arms extended out to the side and moved in circular motion clockwise for 15 seconds. Repeat but anticlockwise for 15 seconds. Wrist circle: Bring the hands together in front, interlocking the fingers. Then, keeping all the rest of the arms still, start rotating the wrists in both directions for 30 seconds. EPE20203 10. Teacher will demonstrate to do side stretch for 20 seconds and students will follow: STRETCHING 8|Page Stand and place the left hand on the left side of the body. Raise the right hand high above the head, fully extending the elbow and shoulder. Lean to the left for 10 seconds until we feel a tug on the right side of the torso. Repeat with the right side for 10 seconds. EPE20203 DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY 1 (25 MINUTES) SIMPLE (FOREHAND LOW SERVE) (5 MINUTES) 1. Each of the students will be given rackets in this activity. 2. The teacher will demonstrate how to execute the correct low-serve technique for the basic activity. For example:- a. The teacher holds the feather of the shuttlecock with the head of the shuttlecock facing downwards. b. Place the racquet behind the shuttlecock c. Move forward the opposite leg based on which hand you are holding the racquet d. Swing the racquet according to the serve 3. Teacher asks the students to do this activity according to the demonstration that the teacher shows. 4. Students will practice the activity following the teacher’s commands. 9|Page REFER TO APPENDIX (C) EPE20203 REFER TO APPENDIX (D) ACTIVITY 1 INTERMEDIATE (FOREHAND LOW SERVE – BEYOND THE LINE) (5 MINUTES) 1. Teacher instructs the students to stand in line. 2. The teacher gives out instructions: a. By using the same technique, place your thumb on the holder followed by the other fingers. b. Ensure that they get the good grip of the racquet. 3. The teacher will demonstrate the next activity which is to execute forehand low serve with a target which is beyond the line. 4. (20 MINUTES) 2.The teacher asks the students to stand in lines according to their group. 3.The first student from each line will be holding a racquet and a shuttlecock. 4.There will be another 5 students standing 5 meters away from each group while holding a laser. 5.They will point the laser in the space provided randomly. 6.The first student will execute forehand low serve by using the right technique. 7.10 seconds will be provided for each student to execute the forehand low serve. 8.Students who managed to serve the shuttlecock according to the laser accurately will get a point. 9.The game goes line by line and evaluation will be taken by the teacher using a scoresheet. 10.The group who gets the highest point will be the winner. 14 | P a g e REFER TO APPENDIX (H) EPE20203 CLOSURE (5 MINUTES) COOLING DOWN 1.The teacher and students will jog lightly in place for 1 minute. 2.Teacher will demonstrate and instruct to do the side stretch for both left and right sides followed by students for 20 seconds. 3.Teacher will demonstrate and instruct to do arm circles for 20 seconds. 4.Teacher will assess the students by asking questions: 15 | P a g e What is the correct technique for forehand grip? What are the categories in the badminton game? What are the main muscles used while playing badminton? REFER TO APPENDIX (A) EPE20203 REFLECTION Doing a project together using our individual strengths and weaknesses helped us to bond while doing our project. This project had been a great opportunity for us to know the difficulties of a teacher where we had to do a mock teaching. It shows where we have to give correct and appropriate instructions to the students so they will understand the techniques of how to play the forehand low serve in badminton. This project helped us to create a bond as friends as our group members are not familiarized with each other and we do not really know the other person’s style of working. It helped us to connect and also know our strengths and weaknesses as we helped each other while doing the project. The major issue we had while working on this project is miscommunication where in the beginning when we do not know the working styles and how to communicate with each other. It got overcome when we understand their way of talking. Next, the issue we had was time management where our group members were from different courses and years we had difficulties on which day we should record our mock teaching where everyone’s schedules were clashed when we try to choose a date for it. In a nutshell, we as a group would like to say that every group has its ups and downs but it is our choice whether to give in to it or find a way to overcome it. We hope that in our future classes, we could continue our journey as groupmates. 16 | P a g e EPE20203 APPENDIX A) B) 17 | P a g e EPE20203 C) D) 18 | P a g e EPE20203 E) F) G) 19 | P a g e H) Scoresheet (Evaluation Phase) Technique: Forehand Low Serve GROUP: ________ Tick (/) when criteria is met.
