National scholarships
Lance Corporal Phillip E. Frank Memorial Scholarship
The Heart of a Marine Foundation issues a scholarship to U.S. military veterans and active duty
members. If currently attending school, applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from a
school official. Verification of community service may be necessary for candidates without recent
military service. This scholarship also requires a 500-word essay describing how the applicant
exemplifies the Marine ideals of honor, loyalty, patriotism, respect and care for others.
AMVETS National Scholarship Program for Veterans
AMVETS grants a scholarship to military veterans who have exhausted government aid and still need
funding to complete their education. The scholarship is open to both those pursuing undergraduate and
graduate degrees. A total of $1,000 is awarded each year for up to four years. Several application
materials are required, including a 50-100 word essay about higher education.
Dr. Aurelio M. Caccomo Family Foundation Memorial Scholarship
AMVETS offers a $3,000 award to military veterans, including past members of the National Guard and
Reserves. The scholarship can be applied to part-time or full-time undergraduate courses, including
online schools. Among the application materials, the award requires a resume, a letter of acceptance to
an accredited program and a 50-100 word essay about how the award will help the candidate achieve
his or her career goals.
NBCC Foundation Military Scholarship
The NBCC Foundation grants awards for prior or current active duty service members. Candidates must
be enrolled in a CACREP-accredited masters degree counseling program with at least 18 completed
credit hours and at least six hours during the current semester. Applicants must have been in the
military in the past five years and have received an honorable discharge.
Society of Sponsors of the United States Navy Centennial Scholarship Program
The Society of Sponsor of the United States Navy offers $3,000 per academic year to Navy and Marine
wounded veterans of Corps Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New
Dawn Combat. The scholarship is open to full-time students pursuing a degree leading to licensure as a
teacher. The minimum GPA for eligibility is 2.5.
Sarah A. Bonnifield Vietnam Veterans Scholarship Fund
Sarah Bonnifield provides funding for a $1,000 or more financial award to Vietnam veterans and
spouses, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of Vietnam veterans. Applicants must be working
toward a degree at an accredited college or university and supply a 500-word essay describing the
“Coming Home” experience of Vietnam veterans.
43d Infantry Division Veterans Association Scholarship
The 43d Infantry Division Veterans Association grants at least $1,000 annually to members of the
association or their families. To be eligible, applicants must be a member in good standing of the 43rd
Infantry Division Veterans Association. The annual application deadline is April 1.
Regional scholarships
Past Presidents Parley Nurse’s Scholarship
The American Legion Auxiliary Department of Ohio awards an annual scholarship to veterans and
spouses and children of veterans. Veterans must have served during active war dates in World I, World
War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon/Granada, Panama or Desert Storm. Only Ohio
residents will be considered; the scholarship must be used at a nursing school.
Department President's Scholarship
The American Legion Auxiliary Department of Ohio awards one scholarship of $1,500 and one
scholarship of $1,000 annually for students preparing to enter his or her freshman year of college. The
applicant must be a veteran or a direct descendant of an honorably discharged veteran.
