Q1. Tell me something about yourself.
I am a third year undergraduate student studying BBA at IIM Rohtak. My professional interest is in the domain
of Finance as I have a love for numbers and have an inclination towards exploring the asset management sector in
Finance. Talking about my past experiences, I have previously interned at Unschool, Hyderabad for 1 month as a
business development intern wherein I had conducted a survey about the willingness of students to learn new courses
and then sold courses to the interested students. In addition, I also did my rural internship with Little Love Foundation,
Indore wherein I assumed the role of a Quantitative Research Analyst and conducted research to understand the impact
of COVID-19 on the mental health of youth of India. Furthermore, since I come from a defence family, I have
witnessed a lot of transfers and thus this makes me an adaptable person who can adapt to any situation with ease.
Lastly, I have worked in several group projects that make me a team player and I have the ability to walk my team
through tough situations and come out successfully.
Q2. Do a SWOT Analysis of yourself. Mention at least 3 points each for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities,
and threats.
(Hint: Keep the strengths and weaknesses at least 75% related to professional/academic/career-related. Do not get into
your personal side.)
Strengths
Adaptable, Analytical Frame Of Mind, Team Worker
Weaknesses
Limited understanding of technical skills like coding and data analytics, Limited Practical Exposure.
Q3. State one instance associated with each of your strengths.
I am adaptable as I belong to a defence family and thus have witnessed numerous transfers throughout my
school life. Therefore, due to this I have changed my school number of times which forced me to interact with new
people every 3 years and make new friends and settle in a completely new environment.
I have an analytical frame of mind and this can be seen in the various research projects that I have conducted,
wherein I have analysed and interpreted the data collected through various statistical methods and tests which also
show my affinity towards numbers.
I am a team worker and this is because throughout my 2.5 years at IIM Rohtak, I have worked in various group
projects and this has taught me to interact with people coming from different backgrounds and ensure that collectively
as a group we perform the best.
Q4. State how you plan to work on each of your weaknesses
I plan to work on my weaknesses by doing some internships in the remaining months and gain practical
exposure in the domain I am most interested in, i.e. Finance. This would help me know the relevant skills that are used
and required in the field of finance so that I can mould myself in the required manner. Moreover, I am also planning to
learn a few technical skills such as data analytics by taking some courses and then linking it with finance to get a more
holistic understanding.
Q5. Could you define your professional mission? What are your short-term (1-3 years) and long-term
goals (5-7 years)?
My professional mission is to create a positive impact in the Indian Business Ecosystem, wherein I aim to
build businesses that would operate globally and contribute hugely to the development of India. My short term goals
are to work in the Finance sector and learn about asset management by working with the best companies in the sector
and contribute to the organisation's growth. This will help me give an idea about the intricacies of the business and the
relevant skills and experiences required for building a successful business in the industry. Talking about my long term
goals, I wish to start an asset management company of my own where my aim is to help eradicate the fear among
Indians about investing in the stock market and help my clients get the best possible returns which would in turn help
in improving the financial health of Indians. Give an instance when you stepped in, took charge, mustered support &
influenced the outcome of a project by taking on a leadership role. (Use the STAR technique)
Q7. What decisions have you most regretted? Why?
The two decisions I regret the most are firstly, not gaining enough practical experience before graduation
by doing some internships and gaining real-world experience. The second regret is not networking enough
throughout my 3 years of graduation. Both of these decisions could have helped me boost my career and
opened a wide variety of opportunities for me.
Q8. Which domain are you interested in (Finance/Marketing/Consulting/HR/Operations/IT)? Why?
My major interest is in the field of finance, and more precisely in the field of asset management. My interest in
asset management comes from the books I have read about finance such as One Upon A Wallstreet by Peter Lynch,
Coffee Can Investing and Little Book Of Common Sense Investing, which gave me an exposure to the fund
management industry and intrigued me to know more about the stock market and investing. My other interest is in the
field of Marketing, and this comes from the marketing course we studied at IIM Rohtak, where our professor taught us
marketing with the help of various case studies and this helped me understand the psyche of a marketer and how one
must think while marketing their products.
Q9. What has been your favorite course at IIM Rohtak until now? Why?
My favourite course at IIM Rohtak has been Computer Applications in Finance as it taught us different
investment models that are present in the literature and are used by industry experts even today. Given my interest in
the field of asset management, the course gave me a lot of valuable insights and helped me learn the theory behind the
domain of asset management. Moreover, the course also taught us important Microsoft Excel functions including Pivot
Table which also forms the backbone of a finance professional and thus learning it was a great experience.
Q10. What are your key interests? What have you done till now to pursue them? (Describe instances)
My interests include cycling and reading non-fiction books. For cycling, I had joined a club when I had started
and soon I did my first 100km ride from Noida to Murthal and back. Further, I shifted to Hadwani and there I used to
cycle in the hills every sunday as being on the wheels always made me happy. In 2018 I participated in one of India’s
toughest mountain biking championships MTB Nainital, which is a two day stage race covering a total of 120 kms with
a total elevation of nearly 3500m. This race has participation from cyclists from all over the world and I was successful
enough to complete the race in the specified time. Talking about non fiction books, I have read a couple of non fiction
books and constantly make an effort to read more books to improve my knowledge and become a better individual
everyday.
